I have searched and am a bit surprised to not find any info on a 2lo mod. I have a 2000 Sr5 4runner, 5 speed w/ADD.

Before you all ask why I want 2 lo; I find it vary useful on trails like the con, or moab where at times there great traction(the slabs on the con, most of moab) but you still want to go slow. This helps prevent a blow Birf/Cv shaft. I also use it when backing a trailer, stuff like that.

I don't think that is going to be possible unless you get lockout hubs in the front. I know why 2 low is good too. My stupid friend got a mattress stuck around his rear wheel so we disconnected the front hubs and popped it into 4 lo. Revved it up and dropped and mattress broke loose. He didn't have that same power in 4 lo.

 

converting to manual hubs is some thing that i would like to do, but i do not want to have to get out of the truck to go to 2lo, i should be able to do it when in the driver seat, other wise it wont happen

 

You should be able to put a switch in the circuit that controls the vacuum engage valve for the ADD. Somewhere there should be a sensor in the transfer case that detects when you shift to 4wd and tells the ADD system to engage. Find the sensor, put a switch in the wire and you'll be able to seperately control the ADD.
I can send you the wiring diagram if you want to be first to do the mod.

Thanks guys! I use two-low every time I am out. It's an easy mod with a lot of upside. I did that write up several years ago and had almost forgotten it was up there.

 

im running dual cases, so i just put the first case in low gear and leave the 2nd case in 2WD, and Viola!!! 2 low!

course, you gotta have dual cases first.....

 

course my "2 lo" mod cost me $1700 all said and done....doh

 

do a search on twin sticks, easiest way to have 2Lo.....

 

Easier than unplugging a wiring connector? I don't think so...

Disconnecting a wire connector to the ADD module only prevents one axle from getting power, then the diff is gonna be spinning the spider gears to compensate, the front driveshaft is under power, not a true 2Lo.

By going twinstick you get true 2Lo, but it means taking apart the transfercase....

 

But you still cannot have 2lo front drive only, only 2low rear drive. Toyota cases are not set up for that. IMHO the twin stick is a waste of money on toyota cases.

 

I think there is a flaw in your explanation. I cut all that ADD IFS stuff off. As such, there's nothing to activate up front. When I switch into two low, my front driveshaft is disengaged and I have low range in the rear. If I understand what you are saying, then by your logic, the two low mod wouldn't do anything in my case and that is just not the way it is.

It IS a true two low.

 

I do not have pushbutton 4wd, it a stick next to my shifter. But it sounds that all i need to do is put a switch in the wire running to the ADD and that would allow me to over ride the shifter. If some one with a wiring diagram could email it to me that would be cool. ian.m.rogers (at) gmail.com. If i can make this work i will do a full wire up with pics

Hmmm... I will also see if I can find the other write up as well.

 

This is where the misunderstanding occurs, we are talking about a 4Runner with a 5-speed, they have "J" shift Tcase, not the push button one like on yours. There is no simple wire to modify to have true 2LO.


Actually a toy case can have 2LO front drive, but everyone will have to wait for Marlin to actually put it out in production, his prototype works awesome...... I personally don't have twin sticks, but perfer the crawler box instead.
