greetings! i have a '01 Sport Pkg 4Runner with 265/70/16 tires. i am planning on up sizing my tires to BFG AT 285/75/16 with stock wheels. could something tell me whether:

1/ the tires would fit my stock wheel?
2/ spare tire would fit the wheel well if fitted with bigger tire?

What's the actual inch size of a 285/75R16? Is it a 33X9.50 or something like that?

I thougt it was the same as the 33x12.50? I could be wrong. I am alot

 

If I'm correct, they are 32.83x11.22R16 Does this sound right?

A 285/75-16 BFG All-Terrain K/O is 32.9x11.3. That is from the BFG website

 

Does anyone know i I 'd be able to run them with the PP 1" springs? I'd love to have them, but I think they would rub, would't they? I'd probably have to get the 265/75R16's, right?

2. not sure, but i think the spare will fit in the stock location only if you dont have a trailer hitch. it def wont fit with a trailer hitch

I have a similiar question .. I have a 02 4runner with a daystar 2.5 lift (spacers basically) ... will the 285/75/16 fit with out rubbing?

I believe to fit 285's you need atleast a 2" lift all the way around the more the better though..

I bought the lift kit off of Ebay and had a shop put it in .... but from what I understood it was 2.5 all around. I can see the red spacers in front, and in the rear ... correct me if I'm wrong.

Someone said something about the hitch not clearing .. is this so? .. b/c I need to leave the hitch on there.

Also I know the 285s won't fit in the spare position with the hitch .. but could I leave the stock spare, and still be able to use that, instead of upgrading the spare too?

sorry to bring this thread back from the grave...but!

i am about to install 2.5" spacers up front and ome 891's out back. i am hoping to be able to run the trXus m/t's in a 285/75/R16 on stock wheels.

the tire size is a 33x11.5". this will fit with no problems except for possibly banging the pinch welds up front a bit, correct?

i am more concerned about rubbing on the a-arms, but i thought that was only with the 12.5" wide tires.

some confirmation or suggestions are welcomed!

 

When I read this thread, I didn't think it would work and then I saw how far back it went. I think they'll rub the a-arms. Isn't this why one of our 3rd gen owners recently bought the Lexus wheels so he wouldn't rub? I can't remember who this was but it was fairly recent and it wasn't Fink. Let me search and if I can find out who, I'll post back.

yeah. i searched for 285/75/R16 on stock wheels and this is really the only thread that came up with importance.

i KNOW the 12.5" wide tires will rub. i just am not sure about the 11.5".

 

Wow what an old thread.

285's will fit with 2.5 inches of lift, no less unless your rig is a complete street queen. They will fit on stock rims as most here on the board run this setup including me. You will need to bang the pinch weld flat and you will either need to buy new upper A-arms or shave the ones you have so the tire won't rub there (285's will rub the a-arm). Check out Schaefer's site, he will modify your arms for you for pretty cheap. You may also rub the frame a little at full stuff and turn, but you can't hear it and it doesn't hurt anything.

Rob (AZSKY) has 285/75/16 on stock and rubs the a arm, and I think part of the frame. So to concur (sp?) with Jon they will fit, but rub.

 

I know i thought the same thing Mike. I thought Shazad was just being his sarcastic self as usual and then I realized this was like 3 years old...haha!

 

i read that a 1/4" wheel spacer will take care of any of the rubbing. any idea as to price or where to purchase those?

and with the a-arm rubbing...then a body lift won't help that.

i guess i will have to figure something out on that one. i wheel about twice a month when possible, so it is definetely not a trail rig. how hard is the rubbing on the a-arm?

 

You can go with wheels spacers, but I wouldn't really recommend it. Most people have a problem with vibrations and plus if not installed right and checked frequently they can be very dangerous. Think of your wheel passing you on the interstate. With that said a lot of people run them and like them, but that's your decision. Talk to Ryan (RTDawgs) I think he ran that setup. Ask him this thoughts. As for rubbing the a-arm, a body lift will do nothing to correct the problem. Rubbing isn't extremey extensive, but i can't imagine it being good for the inner side of the tire, plus every vehicle is different so it may rub worse on your vehicle than someone elses,so keep that in mind. I ran mine with stock arms for about 2 months and switched them out with ATS arms because the rubbing was pretty bad on the inner side of my tire.
