285/75-R16 with stock suspension
I've ordered 285/75-R16 Toyo Open Country AT tires for my 2001 Limited.
The tires are going to be at the shop on Friday (tomorrow).
I have Toytec 3" Ultimate lift (coilovers front + OME back) sitting in my basement which I'm planning to put on next week.
My question is - Would I be Ok to mount Toyo on stock Limited rims and stock suspension and drive the truck home approximately 10 mi?

Depends on how much turning is involved on the way home and how comfortable you are with the possibility of tearing up your wheel wells.
FWIW, a friend of mine put the exact same tires on his 2000 4runner (w/3" lift) and has no problems whatsoever. He loves them.

What was wrong with your setup?
Stock 265/70-R17 are 30.6
Toyo 285/75-R16 are 32.8
It's only 1" more in radius and 0.5" wider to each side....???

there is no way my 285's would fit and not rub with out your lift on. its going to rub like a fat chick in chortaroy IMO. now if I could only spell.. get your lift on first and then, go get mounted up.

I run 285/75/16 mtz on wheelers type b steel wheels.i also have my toytec set on about 3'.works fine.plenty of room with the type b wheels.no issues with uca..

Anyone running 31x10.5 R15 on stock rims, I've ordered a set which should be in this week, I have a 2 1/2 lift on the front and a 1 1/2 on the rear. Im just a little worried the tires may be too wide for the front, thinkin of gettin a set of pro comp offsets 3.5inch but thats just more $$$$$ to spend that I dont have!

I had that exact size on my stock rims on my '00 base model. I had the daystar 2.5 inch spacers in front and back. They fit with plenty of room. Not even close to rubbing. I believe I could have fit that size w/o the lift.

i run 285/75 and have my coilovers cranked up to 3.5 inches and the tires rubbed, especially when wheeling. i ended up needing a 1 inch body lift to help with the rubbing. now its all good.... i would suggest a 1 inch bl just for a little extra clearance

About to order new tires (285's hopefully) and was wondering if you got the 285's to fit after your lift? I have the same lift and I want to step up to 285's but only if minimal modding is needed. I'm comfortable with trimming a bit and getting spacers if necessary.

if you still wana do it then i say go for it b/c i had 295/75/16's on mine for a year b4 i put my lift on and i only had a lil trimming and rubbed only a lil bit of rubbing at sharp turns
you should b alright and the most you would have to trim would b some of the inner fender flare on the front bumper and the pinch weld but thats if its really bad u should b fine i would think

Lots of people run 2.5" lifts and 285s. Like Kerby J said, most likely you'll need to hammer the pinch welds flat and cut some of your plastic fender moldings in the obvious spots. You'll probably need to run 1/4" spacers so you don't rub on the upper a-arms and you'll probably rub the frame a little bit at full lock.
I'm running 305s and 2.5" of lift and have minimal rubbing in the back and no rubbing in the front (except on the frame but I don't care about that). I'm going to 285s after these tires are bald because the 285s will be skinny enough to eliminate the rubbing in the rear completely.

285's will fit on the stock rims and most will clear the uca's. I went with new Pacer wheels in the 16x8 size with 4.25" of bs and now have ~.75" of clearance with 285's. With the stock rims, I had about .25" of sidewall clearance.

I put the lift first, then tires.
I do have some rubbing (very little) when backing up and turning wheel. It comes from the tip of the bumper which sits inside the fender well. I don't care much as it so little, so I can't see the rubbing signs on the bumper, just the corner itself and I'll be changing it anyway to ARB very soon.
