Sorry for the stupid noob question and for the thread hijack, but what the hell is a pinch weld??

I'm going to be going with a 3" lift on my 98 4Runner and some 285/75's in the spring and from what I've been hearing im going to need to do something with this pinch weld. Pictures would be wonderful.... Thanks!!

The pinch weld is basically the seam between the underbody and the outerbody. Its where the inner and outer bodies are pinched together, it runs along the underside of the body between the two wheel wells. If you have running boards it is not visable from the outside, you have to be under the truck to see it (I think - I never had running boards).

Here's a picture or two for reference. And yes a 96 is a 3 gen (it was the first year of the 3rd gens)

Parking lot shot:

Flex/stuff shot, no problems with clearance:

You should be fine but before you leave the tire shop make sure all is well and if any changes to the pinch weld or if you have rubbing issues get them address (like the others have said).
