255/85/16 on a stock '99?

yes i searched. i found that a guy has them on his stock '00 taco but i understand the wheel wells are different on the runner. anyone ever tried this size on a stock runner? its a '99 so im slightly taller. eventually i will lift it, probably ss#7 but my suspension is still good now and i cant afford the lift and locker. decided to go locker and 33" muds if i can fit them. thanks guys

I have a stock 01 4Runner and have a set of 255's I'm waiting to put in. I test fit on the front and there is a very minimal amount of rubbing on the wheel well (hits the bolt head that holds the sr5 flares on). I don't know just how much taller the 99 is, but I think you'd be very close to fitting without rub ...

Know it isn't much help ...

Why this size instead of 265/75s? 255 is going to look really skinny. 285/75 will need a bit of a lift.

Good reading on why tall and skinny. It comes down to personal choice, but for me tall and skinny is preferable. Out in the desert we don't see much deep mud or snow, so don't need flotation.

i want to run a 33" with as little lift as possible. also im in canada and alot of my driving is in snow conditions. the skinny tire will work better for me. however i might just go 265/75/16 if i cant get the coopers where i am.

I put on some 255/85's on my unlifted '98, along with a 2" body lift. I still had to pound the pinch weld to clear during compression, but after that there are no fitment issues. If I remember right '99's sit 1" higher than '96-'98 and 2" higher than '00-on. So, stock if you 'wheel it you might have some clearance issues depending on how much you're willing to trim. Toss on a 1" body lift and you should eliminate 99% of the trimming.
