22R rebuild

I'm thinking of getting my 22R in my 84 4x4 rebuilt. It has 145k on it, the timing chain is getting noisy and starting to leak oil from front seals. Dosen't burn any oil yet, but I drive the hell out of it.

Anyone know what a fair price would be to get it rebuilt? and no, I'm not going to do it myself. no time or place to do it. I haven't called around yet, but I will start calling next week.

With only 145K miles, I would suggest replacing the timing chain dampeners & front seals before rebuilding the entire engine. What typically happens with an older 22R is that the timing chain dampeners wear completely out and the chain starts cutting a hole in the side of the timing chain cover. Eventually it will cut all the way into the water pump housing and water and oil will mix throughout the engine (not good). I would have the compression checked and if it is within spec, just get the dampeners, timing chain, water pump & front seals done. It'll be a helluva lot cheaper than rebuilding the engine.
