2002 runner bouncy ride help!
#1
After swapping my stock springs with OME 881 front and 906 rear and new Tokico Trekmaster shocks I have been experiencing a ridiculos boucy ride. I can probably feel every single pothole on the road. I am very unhappy with the ride quality. I do all city drive and was hoping to get a nicer ride with this new set up but I have to say that I am thinking of going back to stock. The truck sits higher now but apparently it is not allowing the shocks to do their job.
Anybody got any suggestions?

Thanks for the info but....
I don't think the info you linked above applies to Tokico Shocks for my truck. That info seems to be for Shocks that are rebuildable and for Racing performance shocks.
Thank you though.
Anybody else with other suggestions?

I run Tokico Trekmasters in the rear with OME 891s because the OME lift shocks (N86/N86Cs) that are sold for the 4runner aren't long enough for my custom linked suspension. Those OME shocks limited the travel and I was going to break them because all the stress from flexing was transferred to the shock itself so I replaced them.
However, I used Tokicos made for a Landcruiser FJ80 (which are ~2" longer). My point is, mine ride sweet but that's probably because I have a heavy rear bumper and lots of tools and weight so the stiffer valved shocks work out good for me. What Tokicos are you running? For a 4runner? "Bouncy" would suggest to me that your shocks are valved too soft and don't dampen the coil enough.
Edit: Another thing to consider is OME suspension is first and foremost off road suspension. It's not known for riding plush on road, (it's actually known for riding somewhat stiff) but it's great on the dirt with your tires aired-down. I just wouldn't have chosen OME for a street machine.

Perhaps wrong OME springs...
I first bought my shocks, the ones suggested for my truck (Tokico Trekmaster) after buying shocks I decided to replace all suspension. I asked in this forum what would be the best springs to set up with my shocks and I was recommended the OME for city drive. I believe I was misinformed about these springs, these springs are strickly for off road driving because they feel very stiff. I loaded my truck with my cousins (4 guys avg weight per guy was 200lbs) only then I noticed that the truck responded much better on bumps/potholes, apparently the weight compressed the springs allowing for the shocks to absorb bumps better.
I thinks I am going to go back to my stock springs. the combination I have at this time does not work for my city drive.

It's probably just stiff coils. When you say bouncy, it makes me think it keeps bouncing for a few seconds after hitting a pothole or something which would be the shocks. Now it sounds like it's just too stiff and the coils don't absorb the bumps enough. AFAIK, you can't change the valving on the Tokicos. I don't believe the coil height has anything to do with it either. I suggest softer spring rate coils like your stock ones (or '99 tall coils if you want a littel bit of lift). There aren't too many options in-between the '99s and a full 3" lift so it is what it is.

Heavyier bumper and time
A slightly heavier bumper along with some time on the springs would help I would let the springs wear a little before I changed it so fast back to something else. Ifu don't like it in 5k then can sell them quick in marketplace here.

they may be going off the truck sooner than what I anticipated and will be up for sell here, (didn't know whe could sell stuff on this site).
I have a friend who works at the Toyota dealer and can get me the springs at almost half the price.

881s up front should be fine-that is what I am running.
I would guess you are feeling the stiffness of the 906s in the rear. I gave up on 891s in the rear for a similar reason, they felt great loaded down but I could feel every pothole when empty. 890s in back are a good compromise for a bit of lift and decent street ride. 99 tall coils in back would likely be a good combo for you with the 881s up front.
See Sonoran Steel website for a wealth of info. Opinions vary widely -even amongst members of this forum. Butt feel behind the wheel is entirely subjective meaning what one of us loves another of us hates...the variations of combination of shocks and springs is incredible for the 3rd gen Runners.
To second Waskilly Wabbits comment-OME springs generally speaking are meant to work in conjunction with OME shocks-I run OME Nitrocharger shocks at all 4 corners and at present am quite happy with the set up I have. Conversely Steve of Sonoran does not favor OME shocks at all.
