So with 881s in the front and 906s in the back...how's the reverse rake on that?

99 tall springs + HDs = reverse rake?

I have a 00 limited 4x4 it hthe 16" wheels. When i bought it i installed HDs all the way round with new geoladder 275/70/16s.

I just installed some rear 99 tall springs. Its an improvement over the 00 rear springs. With the tall 99s the rears a bit higher then the front.

In order to level everything out and improve the ride more i was thinking of adding some 99 tall springs to the front. Then i read using the tall springs all the way round with HDs results in reverse rake. Can someone confirm that this is the result? Thanks

No, you'll be at the 99 height. You could always put a few trim packers in the back if you feel it's unlevel though.

Yeah, gpcollen is right on this one. Here's the correct terminology:

Strut - a shock with a spring perch (no spring, no top hat)
Shock - a shock with no spring perch (what goes in the rear of most solid axle rigs)
Coilover - a Strut/Coil Spring combination that is self-contained. Usually height adjustable.

jbudhram: thanks for the info on the OME equipment and the pictures, good stuff!

To me, it does look like there is a bit of reverse rake....but that's because even if the wheel gaps are equal on 4Runners front and rear...the rear still looks lower. The rear wheel gap has to be greater than the front for the whole rig to look level...if you're looking at the roofline and body lines.

Thanks..

went with the 99 coils all the way round. The front 99s really improved the ride combined with the HDs. The rears though were kind of a let down so im planning on replacing um with some 906s.

I'm looking at rockauto.com for 99 spings as well. Found that MOOG has rear springs marked around $45. Are you sure that part #81041 is for the tall springs? From what I've heard 99 offered two different sets of springs for the 4runner... I'm getting ready to do the shocks struts and springs as well in my 2000 4Runner, am thinking of trying the Rancho Quick Lift in the front with the Rancho 9000's in the rear with the 99 tall springs. What are your guys thoughts?
Also, how do Rancho shocks affect the ride and handling compared to OE???

Id say

pass on the rear 99 talls and do OME 906s instead. Im on 99 Talls up front and the OME 906s in back all on bilstein HDs and really like it. One thing about the 99 tall fronts, as much as you pay for them you can buy OME 880s and end up with a better coil IMO.

Cant help you on the ranchos though.

Hey I would really go with the OME set up if you can swing the cost. The 880/906 spring combo with the nitrocharger shocks is really nice. The ride quality is awesome and it handles much tighter than stock. Much less of a headache than trying to put together your own mock stock kit.

It isn't much, but it looks like a slight reverse rake to my eyes (especially in the profile shot). Pretty darn close to level, actually. Thanks for posting the pics!

The rake is slight and sometimes it looks bad and sometimes it doesnt. I think I might put the Daystar spacers on the rear to get another 1.5in out of the rear and eliminate the rake all together. The 890s are rated at 2.5in and the 906s are 2.0in so I think it would be a waste to spend the $175 on new coils that are going to settle again. I'll put up some pics if I get them.

How did you go about replacing the rear springs? I'm thinking of taking out my spacer and putting in some LC springs I have lying around.

Update

After mulling it over I'm not going to run those Daystar spacers, I bit the bullet and bought some 890's. Will post update pics. Anyone know if an adjustable track bar is a must with the 890's? Brake lines?
