2000 4Runner stuck in higher gear after stopping

Help! My 2000 4Runner just had a shift solenoid replaced (costing $1000!) and when I am at cruising speed for any length of time, then stop, the truck just revs and won't go. It seems like it is getting stuck in a higher gear (not sure which one). When I shift to R then back to D, it does go. I thought the problem would be fixed after the solenoid was replaced, but it still happens. Had it done at Toyota dealer. Not sure how bad I am about to get screwed. Any other ideas what it could be?

I am not sure which gear it gets stuck in...any way to tell? It seems like neutral but it will go forward a bit like it is idiling high.

They replaced "a shift solenoid" or did they replace all 3 solenoids?

Take a look at: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=587521

Just the shift solenoid. Its the only code that tripped apparently. They said they tested the others and supposedly they were okay.

ok...so the dealer has no clue what is happening. they plugged in the computer and drove it around. The computer says its downshifting, but its not. Sounds electrical??? They want to do a tranny flush to see if it will fix it...problem is they want another $145 to do that. The only other thing they could think to do is replace the entire transmission, but I am not convinced that is the issue since it otherwise shifts wonderfully. I believe it is something electrical ,just not sure what it could be while not tripping a code. HELP!!!

well .. I would say go ahead and do a good flush on the fluid. Maybe add a transmission conditioner fluid. The one offered by motorsilk is a good one. Have you checked your radiator? the 3rd gen 4runners have issues with the tranny cooler leaking transfluid into the radiator and coolant into the transmission fluid.

I replaced the rad this past fall. I shall check it again, but pretty sure it should be okay. It has me rather flustered. Toyota dealer said they never seen anything like this before...wierdness.
