1996 3RZ Conversion Engine Bogging Down Under Load
#21
Well, Ultra4 Sturgis Black Hills Throw down was a success. The only mishaps with the engine during Pre running was a spark plug wire came off of the distributor. Easy fix. Then during the race on the last lap, we lost all power to the gauges, this concerned me as we now had no temp gauge. Truck ran great and stayed running great until we finished under the checkered flag and it died as we were driving down the pit exit. Found that the electric fan connections came loose, no fan, radiator fluid shooting out the reservoir causing the 10 amp fuse to the gauges to fry. We towed it back to camp, let it cool down, replaced all of the radiator fluid and cranked it up. No issues so far. Once we got home we removed the electric Flex a Lite fan and ordered a better radiator. We will be installing a mechanical fan and having a custom shroud made. Looking to upgrade to a LCE supercharger in the near future, thats why I removed the electric fan. Let me know if anyone is interested in the fan. Other than that, we finished last in 4500 class, my 3RZ is not able to keep up with the ponies they have under the hood. Still a great time and hoping to run KOH EMC, Moab, Sturgis and Montana next year.

With all the issues we had this year at KOH EMC this year and going down the fuel system rabbit hole, I replaced the 3 pick ups with a Holley Hydromat. It works but might not have been worth the cost. All of the fuel system has been replaced from the engine the tank.
