Question 1986 toyota truck

Has anyone had any experience with a 1986 toy truck? I have a buddy who is looking into buying one. It has 162,000 miles and looks to be in pretty good shape. Any info that anyone knows would be much appreciated. I am guessing it's the 4 cyl. They are asking $1800.
Thanks in advance:confused:

That sounds like a good price. You can get an engine/trans for nothing. So his major area(s) of concern would be brakes, body, structural.

Again, that is pretty cheap.

Sounds like a good price to me, that is if it's running and body & frame are in good shape.

Ask when the timing chain was replaced if ever and look for rust on the frame and bed.

I have a 86 truck and there a bitch to steer if they dont have powersteering. Also is it a carb or a elec ignition? That year had both. I'm selling mine for parts because it needs a new engine and clutch and heater coil and heater switches and steering weel, and window assembly.....the list goes on and on...if it's beat up they might want to pass. If it looks clean and some old lady has been driving it than it's a great deal! just my thoughts...

if your going to go with that vintage of a rig you should go with and 85...

why you ask..??

it is the last year of the straight axel and the first year of the fuel injection. ( i pretty sure thats right)

its cheaper to lift tooo

but that really all depends what your going to do with the vehicle also....

just some advice and something to think about

1986 Truck

I actually owned an '86 Truck....It had a 22R carb'd..... 4" body lift, 31's and a custom made metal bed with removable diamond plate side rails and a diamond plate tool box......I loved it.....It was actually my first Toy....red just like my runner....didn't to anything to it...bought it that way for $1800 if I remember correctly...or was it $1200?....anyway....if it's in good shape...then it's a good price...

If you intend to use cross-over steering versus the standard push pull setup then it's actually easier and not really any more expensive to go with an IFS rig and swap in the axle. The IFS steering box is cross-over ready from the factory whereas the pre-IFS needs the frame to be sleeved and plated before you can mount the proper steering box. Food for thought...
