We recentlly bought a 2001 Limited 4Runner and I haven't gotten the owners manual yet so I need some help.

Searched no hits

So there are 3 power outlets in the front And I can only get the one with out the covers to work.

There is a power outlet in the cargo area and I can't get that to work either.

Is there a trick to making this happpen?

 

a fuse may be the trick... i dont know, but maybe they are on different circuits.... what else doesnt work?

 

I haven't checked the fuse because my wife has it. I think everything else works fine, Well the Antenna does NOT go all the way down flush but I think it's that plastic cable and unrelated.

 

look in the fuse box in the engine bay and check the fuse labeled "15ACC". this is the fuse that handles the cigarette lighters

 

unrelated... according to the schematics for a 99... the power outlet in back, and the two up front each get power from their own relay...
that could be bad

PWR OUTLET RELAY [ENGINE ROOM R/B] (numbers below are relay contacts for testing)
3-5 : Closed with ignition SW at ACC or ON position
1-GROUND : Approx. 12 volts with ignition SW at ACC or ON position
5-GROUND : Always approx. 12 volts
2-GROUND : Always continuity


there is also supposedly a fuse in engine bay labeled
"(15A) PWR OUTLET"
that goes to the relay, this also could be bad

your ACC circuit activates the relay, but if the ACC fuse was bad radio, antenna, wipers, and a TON of other stuff would not work...

The one without the cover in the front is the cigarette lighter, it's on a seperate circuit from the others. The 2 in the front with covers and the one in the back are on the same circuit. The lighter is on the ACC fuse, and the other 3 are on the PWR OUTLET fuse, chance are that's what's gone.

Okay so I checked the fuse for "(15A) PWR OUTLET" in the fuse panel INSIDE and it was one of those Large fuses you usually see in the engine compartment. It looked okay to me, still had copper in the window. I didn't see a PWR OUTLET fuse in the engine bay but will check again toinght.

then using the pics of the schematics or the pdfs, find the relay and test what contacts are do not have the expected results, it should tell you real quick what is working and what is not

Okay so i got it fixed today. It was a 15 fuse inside the engine bay. It took me a while because I thought it was the one in the dash, then I found the relay in the engine bay and that was not it. Right when I was going to give up I decided to go over them all one more time, and I found it and it was blown. So I changed it out and now they all work well.

Yotatech does it again.

Wait...so i was right? was it the 15Amp ACC? or was it the 15Aamp PWR fuse?

It was the 15Amp PWR fuse in the engine bay. But there is also an ACC but that goes to the other 12V power, the one without the caps.

 

glad ya got it there... since those three outlets didnt work, and they are the only thing on the pwr outlet fuse, and all your other stuff worked, pretty much narrowed it down once ya find it

 

Yep all good now, like I mentioned it is a used 4runner I wonder what made it do that. I will watch it to make sure it stays all good.

 

Probably someone plugged in too much stuff, with all 3 outlets on the same circuit it's easy to overload, especially with a power inverter.

The normal steeing has them live only when the ignition is on.
