'03 Recovery Hooks

Looking for suggestions for the best variety and location to mount recovery hooks on my new '03 SR5. I don't trust the cheeseball tie-downs on the front end. Rear is covered w/hitch and Warn receiver shackle kit.

Anyone already put hooks on their '03? Possibility of posting a pic?

unfortunately there really isn't any spot to add the tow hooks for the front.

your best bet at the current moment is to use the existing loop tow holes found in the front. Use some strap and a shackle as a combo and you should be fine. i've used the loop in the front and it's secure enough for the time being.

hopefully arb and/or tjm will have some steel bumpers for us soon so we can upgrade

good luck

That's pretty much what I was planning to do in a couple of weeks, unless the kind people here had any better suggestions. Apparently, I was on the right track.

Thanks for the verification.

I was looking at the 2 steel eyelets in the front of my '04, they look pretty strong too me and welded to the frame. Do people really think that they are not strong enough for recovery use? Another question, how would I attach a recovery strap to these? I would want to use both with some sort of chain so that the recovery strap is centered on the vehicle. Any ideas?

Also, what can I get for my rear tow receiver to attach a recovery strap to?

Don't worry about the rear. Some people use a receiver shackle kit but that's a waste of money. Most recovery straps have a loop on the ends. Simply insert the loop into the receiver and then insert your receiver hitch pin through it and then secure the pin. I have used this setup for years and have never had a problem. Besides, if you run with a receiver attachment you will lose some of your departure angle.

Adios
