Question 03 JBL Synthesis system ?'s...

I've noticed since day 1 with this system that my front speakers are a lot louder than the rear speakers, and 99% of my bass seems to come from the front doors. It sounds very weak when I turn the fader to the rear. Is this normal? According to what I've read there is a subwoofer with this system (that I assume is in the rear cargo area). Is there an amp that runs the rear speakers and/or sub? And can you adjust the subwoofer level or something? My bass just seems really weak unless I turn the bass level all the way up, or most of the way up.

I've read from other users on other forums that the JBL system for the rear has a problem.

They said a quick fix is that the rear powered amp is too cold so it's not on... something like that... as soon as it warms up it works (i guess)

but anyway toyota's apparently looking into the problem for the 4runners as the problem already exists on the sequoia's... i think of the guys i know that has the sport is having his checked w/ both JBL and toyota... I'll keep ya posted on if something ever gets resolved.

Luckly for me, I didn't get that stock POS and planning to use the "saved $$" on a real system... doh!

Any idea where the rear amp is? Maybe I could have a look at it, and try to find out what's going on.

not sure but if you want to dig into the problem, head over to this forum/board:

www.tundrasolutions.com

goto the 4runner section and u'll find a entire section on the ongoing issue of the JBL rear speakers.. you'll find other sport/limited owners with the same problem and how they are having to resolve it.

hope this helps!

Good Times, thanks for the link! Seems I am definitely not the only one having this problem! At least now I know I am not imagining things! Thanks again!

I noticed that too on mine. I have had mine for about 2 weeks now. I was thinking the gain was not turned up high enough on the sub. Has anyone heard anything more from Toyota on this subject?

I also have the same issue. My stereo sounds like it only has 2 speakers instead of ten.

I think we all do, I am just wondering if anyone is chasing this problem and if they have had it resolved. If so what actions did they take.

I am wondering if this is how the system is supposed to sound?

Is this problem only noticed when the stereo is in Surround mode? There is obviously a big difference in the way each mode sounds...I always thought that maybe the stereo had the surround mode for those folks with entertainment systems built in.

Nope, it's always like that... I can't even hear the sub, I've had the back open and cranking music... The sub is REALLY underpowered. It' like the stereo was on 40 and the sub was on 15.
I called Toyota and complained, but they haven't done jack.

im sorry but you shouldnt expect any real output from that subwoofer in the stock system. all stock oem stereos have POS subs. get an aftermarket if you want real output.

You mean build a box or replace the driver ? The amps for the JBL are attached to the sub driver.

One of these days...sigh... I'm going to replace the head and probably the rest of the stuff. I just need to find someone who can make it look factory, or really close. I was XM too, but I don't want to clutter up my dash with extra boxes.

My last Toyota had such a great sounding system... Sub's too.

That's really strange because mine sounds great. Through all the ranges it has great sound, no matter if it is cold or not. hmmmm...I guess I just lucked out. Granted it isn't quite what I had a couple of cars ago, but compared to my Maxima's stock BOSE system, I think it is really nice.

Well, I'm w/ Chris... I don't think it sounds all that great. It is acceptable, but that is it.
I want a Clarion DVD/XM/7" Video screen up front... A friend has one and it is trick.
