'02 4Runner and a Diff Locker?

I am thinking about getting a '02 4Runner Sport Edition, and I have a E-Locker rear axle out of a '96.

If I was to put the E-locker rear axle in the '02 will this mess with the A-trac?

Thanks

You would have to find a way to get the wheel speed sensors on the new rear axle...

Where are the sensors located on the '02 rear axle?

I just did a quick search, and it looks like the ABS sensors are on the drum brake backing plate? Is this true?

If so couldn't I swap the '02 brakes onto the '96 bare housing and be good to go?

Thanks

I agree. That why I ask really specific questions like this to help others with the same question. That way when someone else searches they can quickly find the answer and not have to sift through a 20 page thread to find their answer.

Doesn't the atrac use the same sensors as the abs? If so you can just use the same sensors. I think all '96 and up 4Runners have ABS.

Interesting, I didn't realize abs was an option on the 3rd gens. The speed sensors are between the brakes and the springs on top of the axle housing. There is one on each side and there are wires coming from them going up to the frame at the differential.

mines a V6. To be honest, I don't know what to look for in refernce to the ABS, but I had the truck at a toyota yard and the guy there was looking at it and said you don't have ABS so I assumed I don't have it. Also, Ive never had it do the click click click click in the dirt when I lay on the brakes. Tell me what to look for and I will look for sure.

According to this, the 4wd non SR5 was optional ABS, but mine is SR5 which should have been standard. If someone tells me exactly what to look for Ill check for sure.

Just look for the light on startup, if you have ABS it should light up while the system is being checked or whatever. ABS was an option on 4 cylinders, my 00 had ABS while my buddies 98, set up almost the same, did not. Not sure about the V6 models, but I do know that ABS was always available on 3rd gens. On 99 and up ABS equipped models also had DRL's, so no DRL's means no ABS on later years, 01 and 02 all had ABS.

If it is only ABS dependant and you axle has ABS, then swap the whole axle.

3rd Gen ABS is at each wheeld, an enlarged area close to the backing plate that has a plug the size of end of a cigar.

If you modified the housing, you could plug it in.
