Question 01 Tacoma Question

i recently bought an '01 tacoma 4 wheel drive etended cab, and i want to lift it. the cheapest suspension lift is from Tuff Country and its mainly blocks... is that any good? i really dont knwo anythign about lifts, but id rather suspension than body. also i have the 16 inch rims (6 lug) whats the biggest tire i can fit on those rims for when i lift it... i'm only looking at buying 33s or 32s but i dont knwo what other specs to look for. i suck sorry.

Like I allways say, do it right and don't go cheap. I don't have alot of money and I know most don't but its better to save your money and do it the right way. Your ride will be better and will handle the trails alot better.

Here's a link from another site about the basics of lifts. Take a read and if you have any more questions then come back here and we'd be glad to help you out. But to start with, decide what you want the lift for... wheeling or street queen? Both? Well, for starters, if you have the $$$ I would go with replacement coil overs for the front like Sway-a-Way or Donohoe and new custom leaf packs for the rear like Alcan or Deaver. And whatever you do stay awaty from blocks for the rear. Good luck!

i think what im gonna do is a 2.5" suspension (basically a spacer/block lift) and a 3" body lift and run 33 12.50R16 on my stock rims.... that should be pretty badass. what you think

Like I said earlier. Lose the blocks and get shackles or AALs for the rear. You will get more axle wrap from the blocks. BTW, did you read the link I provided to you?

yeah i read most of it, so spacers in the front are ok, but in the back they are not... but i also dont know the term "axle wrap". and a friend of mine had an AAL in the back and his drive shaft would always break off at the UV joint, and he always said it wa because they didnt angle it or some crap. so with the AAL would i need it angled, or is that a bunch of crap and his jeep was just trash

This should help with the angle question: http://www.4crawler.com/4x4/CheapTri...line-101.shtml

Axle wrap is where the axle twists under load and changes the drive line angle. It mostly happens during hard acceleration or braking, so you wouldn't want it in the front or back (front would only apply to solid front axles). The lift blocks make it worse because they increase the leverage on the axle without adding any extra support.

Well cheapest way for you to run 33's:
Tough Country Coil spacers up front: 50 bucks
Rear Tough Country AAL: 60 Bucks
3" Body Lift: 125.00
Take the extra money you saved and get a locker: 280 bucks

Well It's been awhile since I bought my bl, but I'm positive it wasn't more than 200 bucks. I remember it being about 140'ish after tax. Hmmm.....try 4crawler body lifts if you get one....may be more expensive but well worth the money. Of course, if you were smart, you'd wait to lift, save for a few months, and buy a quality kit like Humanoid said.
peace

ok i think ive come up with a good plan...

Performance Lifts 3" body lift.
Daystar 2.5" Lift Coil Spacer & Isolator Kit
and a Fabtech add-a-leaf in the rear... then run it on either 32 or 33 11.50 (if i can find some i like)

sound good to everyone? also how much faster will the coil spacer wear down my cv boots

or just a toyteclifts.com lift with an AAL and shocks in the back and spacers and a diff drop for the front...

IM SO LOST!!!!

Go back to post #4 and check out the link there.
If you read the page that Humanoid is linking to customtacos.com you should be a little less lost. Unless you haven't really determined what you're going to use your lift for... then you'll still be lost.
