01 4runner sr5 no reverse a340f

I recently bought a 2001 4x4 4Runner with no reverse. Does nothing when put into reverse. Shifts through all the gears perfectly in forward. It has code P1760 (Shift Solenoid Valve No. 4 Circuit Malfunction). What am I up against here? Closest junkyard trans is 2 hours away for $900. What am I looking at if I were to tear it down? Difficulty/parts needed/cost? I'm very mechanical. I just want to get it back on the road for now. Any info would be great. Thanks!

It sounds like the earlier series 80 Land Cruisers that used shift solenoids in the pan - if so, you would have to remove the pan to access it.
That's a swag, though, as I am not a tranny expert.

Free bump, though.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies, guys! I have gotten reverse to kick in a few more times. Goes in like normal and moves fine then all of a sudden there's nothing at all. I also know next to nothing about transmissions but definitely would like to learn more. donomite49 I'll keep that in mind if I don't find anything! From what I've read there are 3 solenoids if I can figure out which one and get a part number for it. Or if they're all the same? Also found some ways to test them, once out of the transmission. Thanks again!

Lightbulb hard to do on a phone!

Www.bulkpart.com - I did not intend to, but downloaded an exploded view pdf.

Looks like there are 3 solenoids on the valve body , but if there are also pn's
I can't see them ...
