00 to 01-04 Conversion

I might be picking up a 2000 Taco and I was wondering what i would need to convert the front to a 01-04 and if the tailights from a 01-04 would bolt right up.

-Thanks

Ok, there is a very complicated and arduous process. I'll out line it for you, and do my best to be thorough.
  • Remove old taillight using #2 phillips screwdriver. 4 screws total
  • Unplug connector from old taillight
  • Plug connector into new taillight
  • Install 4 screws using #2 phillips screwdriver, 4 total. Tighten in a disgonal pattern starting in the right upper, and ending in the left upper corners

The ONLY difference between the two is ONE longer screw in the 01+ taillights, so make sure you compare or your truck could EXPLODE!

Oh ..... I don't know about that Cougar ... you had better be sure to check that against the FSM (Factory Service Manual) Hate to think you may have missed a step!

Actually, you are right I did miss a step.

-Step 5; Drive the Tacoma to the mall and test out their RTI curbs

You forgot to outline doing the front conversion, but cute response regardless.

I was not trying to be cute, I was merely outlining the necessary steps to the taillight conversion!!

As for the front end conversion, it has been covered before.

Quick search in the "Tacoma/4Runner" section using "tacoma conversion" for keywords brought up this thread: https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/o...thread-163883/

And here on Cardomain: http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2249910

They tell you exactly everything you need to do. I would suggest sticking to OEM parts, the aftermarket parts fitment is terrible.

Also, next time, SEARCH
