From: Bryan Tx,
Called Bud Built yesterday and my crossmember with 2" drivetrain lift and trans skid is ordered! He said he is alittle back logged but it should ship out by the end of next week! He even threw in a T-shirt since he tries to ship next day and can't this time. Great guy! It will still be here well before my motor mount spacers but at least I have everything I need for my drivetrain lift on the way.

also dug up a free cat yesterday. My buddy has a 95 4runner parts truck and he gave it to me, now I just need to get it welded in, anybody have an exhaust pic that shows where there cat is?

I got my U-bolt flip and shock mount tabs from FROR in yesterday and will be working on relocating the rear shocks today.

From: Bryan Tx,
I screwed this up but will post about it anyways. I relocated my rear shocks and put the U-bolt flip on last weekend. Makes perfect sence to me now that I should have mounted the shock eyes perpendicular to each other to allow for front to back axle movement. I'm not sure how I am going to fix it but I'll come up with something. Also looks like I need some longer shocks anyways, these are still limiting me from drooping very far.

U-bolt flip

Upper mount I made - very solid.

Tabs welded to the axle the wrong way, they should run across the axle instead of parrallel to it.

All welded and painted.

Shocks installed.

U-bolt flip installed

Tacked the bump stops on for now, they need to be moved again.

Looks good rob. Wouldn't the shock bushings allow for some front to back movement though? Afterall they allow for side to side movement when in stock config.

Anyway, Might be the "wrong" thing to do, I don't know but what about just turning the axle side shock mounts 90 degrees. This way the top mount will allow for side to side movement and the bottom mount would allow for front to back movement.

From what I can tell in that sencond to last photo is seems that if the passenger side tire is stuffed and the driver side is dropped that the shock is gonna hit the e-brake cable guide as well. Spinning those mounts might prevent that as well.

I am still not sure what I am going to do to fix it but I will come up with something. the bushings will allow the axle to move some, just not sure if it is enough or not. I did take it wheeling yesterday and didn't have any problems.

Here is one cool pic, but my camera got destroyed early in the day, looks like I am in the market for a new one.

I dorove it to the park and it seemed to do fine on the road. It's only about a 10 mile trip but it was the first time I have had it on the street. Still no inspection sticker, I saw more police cars on my way then I have ever seen in my life, lol.

DANG MAN! You been busy! haha. Looking great, Rob, I really am impressed with your DIY workins in this arena. That truck is SO not what it was, by your own hands.... love it. BTW, did you try backing up that ramp? Just to see with back to front push effect on the axle? Can't wait to see what you wind up with there, so I can copy,....I mean, ...try something similar! hahaha.

I think the shocks my buddy gave me(those kidney busting rancho 5000's, ya know?) are for a 4" lift..... so maybe that's why I got OK droop/stuff in that pic I took. Of course, I'll have to do MUCH more to get more droop allowance out of it, SOME DAY, but for now, Pfbbbbbt! lol.

Lookin forward to more, bud,

Mark

PS> Someone asked me if I knew someone in Texas...... DON'T WORRY, not for help, lol. Actually, he's just wondering if you knew someone in/near Dallas that does gears(trustworthy, etc.).... Any thoughts?

I am a few hours away from Dallas Mark, really don't know of any place that is reputable to install a set of gears but I can ask around, I know a few people up there.

Yes it is very nice to finally have it street legal, I have the bikini top on and have enjoyed driving it around in the nice weather.

I'm sure it will man, keep at it and you can make your truck into whatever you want. Thats the cool thing about old yotas, everyone of them has the potential to be great.

HELP!
So I drove the runner to work this morning and ran into an issue with my front brakes for the second time. Seems as though my calpiers are sticking? I can feel the resistance building up and the truck doesn't want to go, the brake pedal was very hard. I had to just over power the brakes with the gas pedal for the last mile or 2 and by the time I got to work I could smell the brakes burning. As soon as I pulled in I jumped on the fork lift and picked up the front of the truck and BOTH front wheels where locked up! I could not turn them by hand. I could see it being a bad caliper if it was just one but come on.....both of them? I bought a kit and rebuilt the calipers myself a few months back, what would cause them both to lock up? It has done this one other time last week and I let it sit for a few hours and when I went back to take a look at it they where both free, I guess the pressure bled off. I can go throw some new calipers at it after work today but I hate to do that and realize that it is not the problem. Anybody think that it could be the master cylinder?

Possible that it could be the master cyl. Not completely sure how exactly they work inside though to say for sure. I have never seen a bad MC cause completely locked brakes though, just a soft pedal. In which sounds like you don't have.

From: Bryan Tx,
I just went outside and checked them again, what do you know they are free now so the pressure it obviously bleeding off. The master cylinder and booster I got used off of a 97 tacoma. I'm really not sure if I should be buying a new MC or new calipers, I have a hard time believing that BOTH calipers are locking up at the same time.

My vote is for the master cylinder. It doesn't make any sense that both calipers would fail at the same time.

Is it possible that your 97 stuff's are applying too much pressure to the factory 4Cyl Rotors and Calipers? Does the Orig., Factory LVSV 'freak out' with added new pressure?(not saying that's possible to lock up the fronts, just throwing ideas out there.... But was thinking, "if it fails, would it divert all the pressure to the rears and put it on the fronts?)

Unless you did something wrong to BOTH Calipers, ...... yeah, I'd really think it would HAVE to be, through process of elimination, an issue with that stuff which creates 'pressure', ...the Master, Booster and or plugged up lines(do they split from the master to the two fronts, out of one line?) Also, ....what about the pressure relief valve to the booster? Is it possible, while running, that if that thing is not doing it's job, maybe it could allow decent back pressure to hit the booster?(That valve, at least with my stock on, is supposed to stop back pressure from the plenum, only allowing air to flow INTO the plenum, not INTO the booster FROM the plenum....right? hahahaha)

Sorry, not meaning to confuse, just very interested, ....as well as 'sorry', that first day legal you're having issues!

Thanks for the ideas Mark, I will check everything over and let you guys know how it goes. Maybe I should upgrade to the V6 calipers sooner rather than later. I eliminated my LSVP so that is out of the question.

I started a thread to get some more attention, please chim in if you have any ideas.
