Thanks Terry for the info and the build link! I didn't know that O'reilly's mixed paint, I'm going to have to check and see if my local store does that! It would be nice if they could, and match my color!

Hello Ed.. Forgot to mention that there may be several stors in your area but usually one will be the main paint store. Just ask where that store is located. Auto Zone I believe is set up the same way.

After the paint has dried, I go over it with a protectant like Armorall or something similar. Think you will be happy with the results and it is like driving a new truck again.

Hello yota864x4.. I appreciate the compliments. I need to update my links. The 79 has a new home now and I am currently working on an 88 pickup. The 88 Runner is where I have been keeping all of my tips and tricks that I find that work for me.

I have been tied up on several different things but this week is looking better. I will be gone for 2 weeks after that, but when I get back from down south, things will move quickly. I have the parts to get everything going and will be getting both my my projects painted when I get back.

The runner is at my dads house and am hoping to be bringing it back to my house this week. That is if all goes well.

Here is the truck I am currently working on. In 3 weeks both of the trucks should be looking and running great. 88 Truck build... https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...-build-253985/

Thanks dirtdobber. All is well here. Starting to get a little time to work on the trucks for the next few days. Hoping to make some progress. At least get on on the road soon.

Hello Cyber the Dragon.. I have priced the gasket. It is actually a glue and not a gasket. It was $30 or $40 for it. Some windshield shops just put some fresh glue on top of the on material. I dont like the thought of doing it that way so cleaned my channel all the way to good solid metal and still need to find out how deep to put it.

These trucks are known for leaking around the windshield and causing all kinds of rust problems on the firewall area. Something I am hoping to fix for good.

Its been since August since I took the runner to my dads place for storing it. Several things have changed, but this runner is my keeper and is back to being on top of my list again. The 85 pickup is going to need a motor rebuild and it wold cost more to get it going then my runner. I need a pick up but Misty would like her truck back and I want my own so I am back to this one. The 3rd gen is to hard on fuel for the driving I do and the first gens are more bearable for fuel mileage. I do love my 3rd gen, but it is economics that play into it.

I went to get it from dads and he asked if I thought it would start? I said sure it would. I did forget about the manifold leak (louder then I remember), but on the 3rd bump of the starter, just to get fuel thru the system she fired up. It coughed and sputtered for a few seconds and then started running right. Never died on me.

A gas station and carwash were beside each other, so I did put 5 gallons in and cleaned underneath so when I paint it will help to cut down on dust. It had some tree sap on it but I need to resand and prime everything anyways. Also I used a core support that has some rust in it. I knew I would eventually get a better one, but I used what I had at the time and it helped get everything mounted up. I dont like the way the drivers side marker light sits in the fender and I have hours working on that. I do have a new fender for it. I will get the fender and core support on and will be sticking some other tires and rims on it and hopefully be getting it painted soon. I have it stripped down in preparing it for paint.

First 5 gallons at the pump. Using a gas can I loose half of it to me it seems as most leak.

First carwash. It is now back here at the house. Wahoo!! Plan on getting after it as fast as possibe.

Hello Zelephant..I wanted to keep the piece with the neighbors as I had two trucks that I sold and one truck I had to part as it was beyond repair, so I sent the runner to dads house. Got those trucks gone so I brought it back.

Hello Cybehorn The Dragon..It has the saggyt butt going on. It just doesnt look like it sitting on the trailer. I will be doing the Zuk Mod. Just not sure which springs I will use. Before I did the Zuk mod on the 88, everytime I hit a bump, it was bone jarring. It makes the ride so much better.

Thanks Mark.. I am putting all of the pieces of the 85 truck back on so as to keep it all together and not losing pieces. Getting the shop straightened back up. I am even thinking of setting the motor that I will be rebuilding for it inside the engine bay just to get it out of the way. I am going to do my best to make it a real nice runner. Even nicer then Mistys, hehehe. I figure a month til paint, maybe earlier.

Putting the 85 truck back together and it will get small things done to it as I go, but no real funds will be going into it until I get the runner painted, windshield, and legal/on the road.

The 85 truck seems to have a good exhaust manifold that it will donate to the runner. Just got to find the block off plates that go to it. I am not a fan of headers as I seem to get alot of leaks with headers. I have used headers in the past, but that was just because I couldnt find a good exhaust manifold. It is a 4 cylinder so it not like I expecting to win any races with it.

First few things I plan on doing is to put the wheels and tires on it which are 31s that I got off of the 84. Replace the core support, fender and exhaust manifold. Get it cleaned up and see if there are any final flaws to work out.

It looks bad right now, but is actually in really good shape. Mostly cosmetics, it will take a few days but I intend to progress quick on this build. The pickup is my next project, I do have a wrecked 92 two wheel drive in mind that I may be getting for the motor for the truck, but am in no hurry for it. If it works out, great, if not that is fine too, but this runner is my favorite.

Hi Terry,
Any update on the P&S? Still no issues I hope and soundproofing is decent? I'm considering that for my 86.
TIA

Hello RAD4Runner... I was in the 88 messing around in the side panels just the other day and it is still holding up and looking well. I will say it does seem to help in the winter time as it seems to hold the heat in alot better. I did do alot of driving with out the Peel and Seal in there and it has made a noticeable difference in the noise. I never have noticed a smell even when I first put it in.

I have the interior out of my 86 Runner and the Peel and Seal is still looking good. I will post some good pics of it later today or tomorrow. It is holding up as well also. It is something I will do to the 85 when I get back on it. I like my cabs quite inside and for the heat and AC.

Hello Mark..I have a cv shaft that I pulled out and was going to rebuild but after looking at it and yours dont think it is worth rebuilding. It was neglected quite a bit and in bad shape. I will see what holds that end cap on.

I got my 31s on and now have a new core support to replace my rusted one. It was all I had at the time but it worked to get everything in place. I also have a leaking water pump so am fix it while in there. I am going to see about swapping exhaut manifolds while this far into it. Will be using the on off of the 85 truck til get back on it. The 85 truck is on the back burner for the time being.

New (to me) 31s tires and wheels. I think I will like the wheels when they are shined up.

New core support that will be going on. The orange strap is my hood latch. I have one with the gray one now.

Core is off and will be putting on a new drivers front fender which I didnt show. Also have the water pump off. Waiting for it to cool off and hoping to get on the exhaust and maybe start putting it back together.

Wheels and tires can make are break the looks of a vehicle IMHO, and those make your runner man. Looking good terry hard to believe that's the same runner I walked around in your shop back in Feb, I know you will but keep up the great work.
