Post str8cr8's 86 propane toy

Ok so i bought my first toyota an 86 body with a 91 22RE in it. $300 bucks. well it would run on starting fluid and i spent about a week chasing wires and talking with guys here on the forum. i replaced parts and could not get it running.
so i took some time from that and got a bumper for it and welded on a temp roll bar, not the greatest but its 1/4 inch thick pipe it will do its job. then got back to the wiring replaced injector wires and redid all new grounds with new wires. also replaced afm, tps, injectors, fuel pump, fuel filter, and a bunch of other parts 300 bucks later still not running. so i gave up and did some research found a 20R on CL here for 200 bucks.
then i also noticed people on here doing a propane conversion. so i called carey and asked a bunch of questions and ordered the kit. meanwhile i tore out all wiring and ran only wiring that was needed. tore apart the head and had it redone replaced timing guides with metal ones and replaced water pump. overhaul kit for the motor came in yesterday so the toy went back together. everything went nice and smooth.
i bought 3 liquid pickup tanks after purchasing a 100lb vapor tank on mistake. doh!! i ended up with 1 29 gal and 2 23 gal tanks all for 20 bucks!! score.
my propane kit got here today spent all day waiting for the ups guy...
went through the kit made sure all was there. i have to say my favorite part about the kit was the beer cozies in it
well since i have the 91 22RE i had clearance issues with the intake from carey how the would normally mount the aircleaner pointing towards the ground the plastic nipple on the side would not let the hood close. the 91 intakes are straight were as the older 22RE were slanted a bit on the end.
so i have to build a air horn for it still.
Any ways did not see very much info on here for the propane swap so thought i would post some pics and see were it goes.
happy playin

Cool build so far! I've thought about switching to propane on my 4runner back when it was a less expensive fuel, but recently the price has skyrocketed, at least in my area. If you don't mind me asking, how much did the propane kit cost? Look forward to seeing it up and running, oh, I like your Camaro project too!

supayota

i do not have it running yet waiting on my tanks will be another week or so till i get them back.
as for HP and TQ the stock specs according to my dyno program on gasoline were around 102HP @ 4000 RPM and TQ was 146 @ 3000 RPM
now when i had the head off i had it polished and ported and shaved .030 off the head just to try it i bought another used head just in case and i did not have to pay for the polish and port since he owed me a favor so i told him why not lets try it.
so my new HP and TQ just a rough estimate would be around 122HP @ 4500 RPM and 153TQ @ 3500 RPM so we will see when i get it on the dyno and see for sure plus these numbers are now on propane so to see an increase is just fine for me.
im not looking for a power house thats why i have my other truck for this will just turn into my daily driver and toy while i will leave my chevy as my work horse

I have always wondered about propane. Looking forward to your results. I remember when you find 2nd gen Camaros all day long. Now they are hard to find. Several of my friends had them when I was in school. I miss the old muscle cars. They have a build section for other cars. If you start a build thread on it, I would like to follow your Camaro build as well.

Ok yes i will start a build thread on the camaro. i have started to work on it it is a ground up project the subframe was twisted, absolutley no wiring, no motor or tranny this is my mothers car that i will be doing for her it hasnt been running for about 8 years and even then it was a pile but should be nice when done.

as far as the toyota goes i built a make shift box for the air-cleaner for right now. so i can atleast go play with it.
still waiting on my tank to get the fittings on it but they all checked out good so now just a waiting game.
