If you're gonna build your own bumper, why not just leave the winch mounted low and build the actual protection up level with the body? Am I missing something?

Zelephant, you are right, i just figured i would ask to see what other folks are doing.

Yesterday i jumpered the VC and VS from the VAFM straight to the ECM, and no change in behavior at all. (this seemed to work for some guys)

I'm getting codes 24 and 31, with intermittent CEL and she is running like doo-doo.
All vacuum lines have been checked and double checked, against diagrams and photos found on the interwebs. AND sprayed starter fluid around vac lines to check for leaks...none found.

The truck will fire up and then die, if i hold the throttle at 2k rpm ican eventually get it warm enough to idle on its own but only at 5-600rpm...rough idle.
Seems to be running rich.

VAFM passes all tests....i guess i'll see if i can't buy another AFM ...i just hate replacing parts that aren't necessarily the obvious problem.
The TPS is aftermarket, but tests fine. On the 3vz-e the VC line from the VAFM connects to one of the TPS wires(can't recall which...VC?) before going to the ECM.

Any thoughts.....Any? Man i am frustrated. I should just start the 1UZ swap now...i wish!

Thanks for the help guys

Maybe?...i think...about the 1UZ?
Sorry i should have responded. Thanks for the links, i have seen those links before and have them bookmarked.
The adapter makes mating a tranny a bit goofy because you need to take into account the added length.
In the meantime ill just collect parts, links and knowledge.
Thanks

Its a bit of a reach, but have you tried another distributor? You seem to have ruled out almost everything else. I feel your pain. I'm fighting simular issues on a EFI swap on an early bronco for idle and run rich conditions. Boy, cant wait to get back to the states to finish that one! I've had 4 months on bench wrenching on both Toyota and Bronco projects!

88, distributor....no, but i did replace the cap, rotor, plugs and wires (all OEM). It runs smoother, but still not idling correctly. It also seems that the idle screw makes very little difference until it is way out.
I may pull the distributor to see if it is off a tooth, but i don't think it is because i can adjust the timing a bit and still be within the tolerance slot on the distributor.

Thanks for the suggestion, maybe ill try to get a distributor from the pick'n pull to test.

You could have an electrical anomoly(edumacated word for 1/2 way ˟˟˟˟ up) that could be causing the bad idle. I don't know if there is a way to test it. It would be easier to try another one

Thanks Swim!

88, i have driven it around a bit over the past couple days, and need to pull the codes again to see what is going on. I too, have a feeling it is a botched wire somewhere in the harness, which is why i jumped the VC and VS lines.

thanks

No change in performance. She still idles rough and low...plan-B
1.Get a Air Fuel Ratio Meter(AFR), anyone have any preferences? I was looking at the Innovate LM2, since i could use it on my bike or any other vehicle rather then hard mounting it in a vehicle i will set once, and never change.

2. Go to the Pick'n Pull at lunch to grab another AFM from one of these:
22250-62020 92-93 camry/lexus 3VZ-FE
22250-43230 85/86 & 87-92 cressida 2.8L
22250-43150 85 supra 5mg (86-92 7MGE Non-Turbo?)
(the above info can be found here)

I would find one one like the original first, and see if was a AFM problem first, otherwise you will still be gremlin searchin, with even more unknown parameters to overcome.

88, yeah you are right, i meant to add the AFM# from my vintage, but a few weeks ago when i was at the 'yard, all the truck VAFMs were gone! I am going to try to find one of those first, but if not i'll grab another.

Neither does my 4Runner.....get it?....start....zing!

I like the 2.4 better also, but a rust free truck was higher on the priority list.

Picked up an 85' Cressida VAFM at the 'yard during lunch.
As predicted not one 3VZ had the AFM, so i will try to mod the 2.8L Cressida VAFM(22250-43230)
I'll be using this thread for guidance
And i need to get an Air Fuel Ration Meter...any suggestions?

SHE RUNS, PURs, REVs, IDLES PROPERLY!!!!! Man this transmission stinks though.
What a triumphant moment!
So, i forgot i actually had another 3VZ-e AFM that i tested a while ago, and it didn't test correctly. Last night i popped the top off of the 3VZ afm, and re-bent the little brush/feeler that sweeps. I haven't checked for codes yet, and honestly i'm afraid to since she is running so well, well, better then before.
I'm am still going to look into the Cressida VAFM, since i have it and would like to learn more about how these systems function.

I think the next step is going to be a tranny swap
