This A/T is on it's way out sooner then later.
I'm going to the pick and pull to grab an R150 hopefully, and hoping it is in good condition.
Can anyone tell me how I can check the trans I'm pulling to make sure it works well? Searching this is tricky and I'm just getting swap questions.
Parts aren't warranteed at the yard and I just need it to hold me over till the engine swap. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

well, i know the r150f is made for the 4wd 3.oh-no, and the r150 is for 2wd... as far as testing, i dunno. my guess is that once it's off the truck, you should be able to shift through the gears.
and what are you doing for the clutch pedal? are all the mounting points already there, making it bolt-in?

Well the r150's are a pretty beefy tranny you could shift it through all the gears an spin input shaft an make sure the output shaft spins. Yet as for the syncros an bearings its gonna have to be in a truck. But like I said they are a pretty stout trannys and I haven't heard of them having many issues.

was thinking this morning about adding the sway-bar from the 2nd Gen to the rear today.
Then i did a search and found this:

http://www.welderseries.com/catalog/...roducts_id=433
Very much like the Anti-Rock Bar by Currie, but WAY cheaper.
Anyone have any opinions on this design?
I like mounting the bar to the frame and extend down to the axle with disconnects, so i can enjoy stability on road, and disconnect for flex off-road.

Stop home for lunch today, check the news, get back in the truck 30 minutes later...and....click, click.... no turn over.
Had to get back to work so i took the 2wd.
I haven't checked anything yet. Didn't sound like the starter, or dead battery. The click is from the relay in the cab when you turn the ignition, so that is good. Started strong this morning, and at lunch. Seems like all lights are on and not dim. I did use a volt meter on the battery, but it died(smoked) before i could get a reading, crazy)
Possibles:
Neutral switch
Starter OR wires to starter(since I'm not getting any starter noises)
Battery(not even a year old, diehard gold)

How old is the starter? The contacts may be worn. Also my 88 3.0 auto would sometimes hair not start even after a new starter its an issue in the factory starting circuit. Every now an then it would create to much resistance to the coil had to wire in my own starter circuit.

The starter hasn't made any strange sounds prior, but that really doesn't mean anything, it could be bad. I have no idea how old the starter is. Usually when my starters go bad you can here them click, but not kick out or out all the way. This didn't click. I have not replaced the large starter wire yet, but i have upgraded all the grounds with 4awg. I was going to replace the wire when i put in my alternator, but maybe i should do that now just to eliminate that possibility.
Also, didn't try tapping the starter with a hammer while someone turns the key.

Well it's the starter....had my son turn the key while i rapped on the starter with a ratchet.
Now i need to cross refernece the part number on the starter sitting in my shed..NIB.

Ian,
We need to come up with a wrench day and place very soon. I can bring my welder, but it would be nice to find someone/place with a compressor to run tools. If it is just a few of us i can host YIMBY (Yotas in my back yard) Wrench-A-Thon. Maybe we should start a thread separte to this.
Since i will be going to the Outer-Banks this summer, i will need(should) replace a valve seal or two that are leaking. They aren't bad, but i don't like the smoke when she starts up. And she needs a timing belt. But that isn't a mod...kinda boring.
Next mod:
Exhaust manifold, alter the stock system so #6 doesn't go bad.
Tranny swap R150f replace the Auto
ISR
MR2 Alternator - and dual batteries (haven't decided if i want an isolator or switch)
FINISH the bumper and tire carrier
Door (electrical) disconnects for tube doors - Schaffer(sp?)
On Board Air - Puma 12v
make cargo rack or buy Load Warrior
that is the immediate list, i really want to put the sway bar on and disc brake conversion, but we will see what time and money provides.

i think you're the only one here who wants to put the sway bar on
wrenching day is a must. i have a small (maybe 2hp) compressor, probably not the greatest for air tools. also, i will be going down to the outer banks as well. i usually go 4th of july weekend with my extra day off that monday. i also have a (somewhat developed) campsite out in west va, about 3 hrs away. last year, i went up on labor day weekend.

Sway-bar would be disconnectable(yep, made that word up) for proper off-road use, since this rig will see lots of road miles to the destination, it's more a safety feature. This truck doesn't get trailered, or towed.
a 2hp, will work for one or too tools, but probably won't have enough umph for an impact.

hate to say it, but you weren't the first:

yeah, that makes sense. the whole "keep the family safe" thing
the compressor really isn't meant for tool use. it inflates things, and my dad uses it for air-brushing. i'm going to use it for riveting sometime, so i guess it could run a grinder or something

Oh, that kind of compressor. I can borrow my dad's nail-gun compressor, but it won't run a grinder.
The sway-bar is also being installed so my wife feels more comfortable driving it, especially when the 4Wallet gets new(bigger) shoes.
Haha, i didn't even think about googling diconnectable.

RB,
How's the soft top working for you? I am hesitant to put mine on yet for fear of the snow we may or may not get still. In fact it snowed a little here this morning (just some flurries). Just curious to see how yours is holding up.
