My Holy grail 4runner

My Holy grail 4runner
So, I just purchased my first 4runner. She is a 1991, 22RE powered, 4x4, 4 door that I bought off of a friends parents. They were the original owners as, the dad worked at the Toyota dealership when it was purchased. It seems to have a fair amount of factory options. Factory hitch, alarm, roof rack and some others.
Now here is why I came here. I have my prerunner still ( https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199...pickup-287148/ ) and, I am thinking about a SAS for the front and 62" long leafs for the rear but, more about that later. The motor is TIRED. I have a stock 1992 22RE in the garage however, I have been reading a lot of things about 22reperformance.com and, considering buying a rebuilt longblock. anyone delt with them before? 5 months seems like a long time to wait..... I used to buy LC Engineering products but, I no longer have a Scrooge McDuck vault of cash so, that's a no go for me. Here is a pic>>>
I'll keep this thread updated as, I work on it.
Thanks for looking!

Nice! Clean lines (AND 4 doors!) of the second-gen with 22R-Eliable! Can't beat that. I would hold off on the mods and focus on reliability/power. I was also considering 22RE Performance because of the rave reviews but because of the long wait (during winter in So Cal - BRRR! LOL! - when my HG blew), I opted for a local shop, instead.

22REPerformance is absolutely great. That owner knows his stuff. I have never purchased a long block from him, but I would absolutely wait for his stuff if I had the chance. Looking forward to whatcha got.

Thanks everyone for the info on 22REperformance. I have decided to go with a local builder from a recommendation of a 22RE enthusiast friend. I am however buying the parts from 22REperformance.
Here is the short list of new parts:
Some mild porting and polishing on the head and intake runners will be done by the machine shop along with the long block assembly. just have to pull the motor first then, order the parts. Not looking forward to those 2 bolts on the bell housing near the trans tunnel....

this is just theory... could you unbolt the engine mounts & remove... un-bolt the transfer case crossmember then lower the engine to gain better access to the top 2x bolts? would removing the exhaust mani be helpful to?

It isn't too hard to do. just requires 2 long extensions a flex joint or wobble and a 17mm socket. you are pretty much guaranteed to get greasy up to your armpits.
