My 94 Clean up/Build up thread!
I am a full time student as well as work most weekends, so this will be a slow process for sure. Let me start off by saying this is my second 1994 Toyota Pickup (I converted over from Jeeps and Fords). I like the simplicity and ease of maintenance of the older Toyotas not to mention their longevity and low cost of maintenance!
Here is the Toyota the day I bought it. They body has a small amount of rust above exhaust pipe on driver side rear fender. The tailgate is a little mangled, and the truck has little dings here and there. I wanted a 22re like the Regular Cab I had before this but finding a 94 4x4 is hard to do around here unless you spend an arm and leg for one. So I settled for the 3.0. I have heard good and bad things about the 3.0, besides being the less desirable between the 22re and 3.0 it has head gasket problems, but my hopes are that the truck has not been abused to much and will last a little longer, at least a year. (3.4 or maybe diesel swap when the time comes??)
As the truck sits:
~280,000 miles on truck (6,000 on timing belt, water pump, steering pump, head gasket, etc)
~I believe torsion bars are cranked, truck has 31 x 10.5 x 15 Dunlop Mud Rovers (need replacing soon).
~Has old man/creeper camper shell. (Will be removed, and replaced with low profile tool box)
~Has a kenwood flip out DVD/NAV (overkill in my opinion for truck)
My plans to start:
I have already replaced all shocks, new wheel bearings, e-brake cable, oil change, and a few small things. My objective is to clean the truck up and go from there. If it is still running fine in 6 months I will be adding a leveling kit as well as some 15 x 10 rims with 33 x12.5s and possibly a paint job as well as roof rack system/ cross bars. As of now I will basically be going through truck and cleaning engine bay, chassis, body, interior, etc.
Feel free to comment or add any suggestions!! Thanks and more pics to come!

Latest purchase are a set of 31x10.5x15 BFG KM2's. Once I get a chance I will post some more pics of the truck once I start cleaning it up.

Here are some pics of the truck before cleaning it up a little. The owner before me loved McDonalds, coffee and smoking. Truck was pretty nasty. Needs a few more good cleanings. Camper shell was the first thing to go. It was held in by 1 small screw that snapped instantly.

Next to do:
-Remove lower valance, the one currently on the truck is bent.
-Remove black spray paint that is on the truck
-Repaint grill
-Remove side strips
-Possibly paint rims black (they are pretty chewed up)
-Add a roof rack

I burned mine also
Guessing it's one of those aluminum ones from way back, I'm an old man, what makes it an "old man camper shell"??
The wood interior went up in flames, the metal to the scrap yard.
This was on an old 2WD 86 from back in the last century..
The current project is a 91 and looks a lot like yours, although sounds like you have more moolla than me to work on it.
Cranked means cranked, or was that supposed to be cracked??
I have the 22RE, heard all those things about the 3.0, that's one of the reasons they went to the 3.4 ...
The 22RE is an excellent motor, just like all the 22's going all the way back..
Keep the pictures coming, we can compare, mine's white also, but san diego rig and absolutely no RUST
Good luck on that one, we do pick a part quite a bit
