Welcome to Yotatech. I like some indepth builds and you have one to do. At this stage you make it any way you want it to be. These trucks are easy to assemble and disassemble. Looking forward to your build.

Welcome! Best of luck getting it to stock height with the sas. Space gets tight when you try to keep it low. Looks like a great starting point!

Its not a big deal to get a stock lift I just don't want anything to extreme.

I like that rear roll bar, looks like it was used for a full legnth soft top. Looks like it will be a fun project!

the previous owner was going to mount another set of seats between the two roll bars and the hard top wouldn't go on as is so it has to come off.

I have never done a SAS. What I have looked into and what you may have read on here is the traditional SAS is quite expensive and will raise one quite high. I am not the one to be giving advice on a SAS but I do have a solid axle truck and an IFS truck. As much as I like lifted trucks and big tires, I too don't want to have to climb up into a daily driver.

From looking at my solid axle truck, it looks like a factory style SAS would not cost that much and if you can weld good, shouldn't be hard to do. My solid axle truck basically just has a hole in the frame for the rear spring mount and a pad up front for the front of the spring mount. You would need to add shock hoops. You wont be much higher then an IFS truck either.

I can post pictures of a factory solid axle set up if you want. The solid axles are a little narrower then the IFS setup. Your rear axle will be wider then the front just to make you aware of it differences. I am guessing you could use some spacers to correct the differences.

I've had a 84 stock pickup and I have a truck I'm going to pull the original hangers from that the cab is rotted out. I also have a multitude of both solid front and rear axles laying around the barn so I should be able to get a pair to match well enough.

Like rattlewagon mentioned, you'll probably run into some problems trying to keep it at a stockish height and do a sas. To do high-steer, you need a minimum of 3" of lift for the tie rod to clear the front leaf springs.

I know its been a while since I've posted this project is going to really be started in the spring. Just an update my original plan was to sas a 86 frame. I've since picked up a rolling 85 frame and body with ARB 5.29 third members installed which has a rotted body I'll be using the 86 body. And someday I'll put the 85 body on the 86 frame to make a winter beater. But that will be a whole other thread someday. I'll have pictures up tomorrow. I just placed a huge order of parts.

I don't have much front suspension up travel. Though pretty sure I could dial it in a little more.
