Thanks for this write-up! My heater control backlight had been out for sometime. So below replaces both heater control backlight and AC on bulb? I wonder if LEDs would fit in there.

No, the 74 bulb is for the heater backlight only. The A/c requires a larger bulb and seems to be attached to the gray circular base. I did not look up a number on that one. Yes you can use LED for the heater panel, I believe. I like my gauges and panels rather dim at night.
Took a drive out to central Mass today. My son has his driver’s test coming up and i still feel he can use more seat time so he drove all afternoon. We stopped at a Viet Nam memorial near Leominster because we spotted this cool tank.
Then further down the road, a legit Japanese market Hilux Surf with right hand drive. We doubled back for the photo. Looks mint!
Put about 200 miles on the ol 4runner today! Melrose to Spofford NH to visit old friends and back.
No photographic evidence, though. So here’s a photo of the original steering box that I just rebuilt and will be going back in tomorrow.
Lots more pics to follow.
Looking forward to the coming photos! I figured when the time comes I would try this too. I did the power steering pump over a year ago. It was pretty straight forward and worked well.

Alright, just posted it but i can’t remember how to add a link to it here…
Had a great “car guy” weekend. Sunday, my son, a buddy and i got to see a 1969 Jaguar Xke that has been in a barn in Maine untouched for 37 years. The owner passed in 1987 and had two daughters, one of which is a good friend of mine. Mom had always hoped one of them would take on the car as a resto project but that is unlikely due to money, time and other family bandwidth limitations. So i went hardcore automotive archeologist on this Jag to determine where exactly it is on the project car spectrum. I spent about 4 hours on it, in it and under it.
If i was a mouse, you bet i would live in a Jag.

It’s a great candidate for a full resto because it is all there, unmolested. The bad news is it needs pretty much everything. So I’ll make a full report to the owner and my 4runner will continue to sleep in the garage.
Today, took the wife for a nice 4runner cruise up the coast from Nahant, through Marblehead, Swampscott, Salem and finally lunch in Ipswich. We saw great coastline and a lot of nice cars were out today. She’s getting good at grabbing photos as i drive.
MGA Circa 1979 Datsun. A rare car these days. Monument in Salem. The famous Witch Museum. It is actually worth the wait. Eat clams. Awesome food, deathly slow service.

Oh man that's some nice coastal driving! That old Jag was pretty cool too. I always liked the look of them . Not as cool as the 4runner tho, look they are trendy now😄
This has been in my shed since i bought my truck. I was cleaning and detailing the truck for Japanese car day at Larz Anderson auto museum near Boston, so thought i’d make an attempt to clean/paint and throw it back on.
Scraped it, Supercleaned it, straightened it, sanded it, primed it and painted it. I used paint I had lying around on the engine side. I used my favorite SEM self etching primer and trim black on the visible side. Barely shows, but came out great.
The boy and I took the 4runner to the Japanese car show today.
Parked on the hill with the other Yotas. 4 low and up we go. The boy. My mom had a GT-S like this. I loved driving that car. View from the hill. There were two sections this size. I don’t know what it is, but it’s cool!
