Haha i vaguely remember that setup. I really wanted to do the full intake from TB to the air box, but the 1st gen 4Runners have less room to work with on 3vz equipped vehicles. No matter that i did the elbow hit the master cylinder. I'd have to cut a flat section in the tubing to clear the master cylinder tube.

seems itd be a perfect candidate for a snorkel. those pop out above the air box where cruise control would be. then just hook the VAFM to that with a silicone coupler then to the intake. slam bam thank you ma'am!

Truck sits like 5-6 feet high. I haven't had a reason to even think of a snorkel other than the look.

Correct, the intake tube is the same but I went to oreilly and autozone trying to get the rubber elbow and they both reassured me it's been discontinued. It's available through toyota for $112, but still... This aluminum elbow cost me ~$10? The most expensive part was the paint.

Did a full brake setup on the 4Runner last weekend. Well overdue, that's for sure. I bought the 4Runner 4 years ago at 195k and haven't touched the brakes since other than pads. It's now at about 235k and I replaced the calipers, rotors, pads and flushed the brake fluid. A family member was at my house while i was doing this so he snapped a few pictures with my phone:

Yeah, the manual hubs are missing a few hardware pieces that i haven't addressed. I'll be swapping IFS hub and bodies on soon enough to eliminate the wheel spacer.

Everything came from O'reilly since i'm setup direct with their corporate warehouse.

Right on. I want to do a brake upgrade on my first gen 4runner to v6 parts and was thinking about rebuilding some junkyard calipers but am also tempted to just buy them from oriely.

You could. It's a relatively straight forward swap. I believe the master cylinder changes between 4 cylinder and v6 models, though.

It does. That's why I want to do 2nd gen 4runner master, booster, and calipers.

Are those rebuilt toyota calipers? I just don't want to run parts that are made in China if you what I mean.

They're just remanufactured calipers. I don't know where they come from or how they're rebuilt. All i know is they work and that's what matters. lol

Couple updates:

The 4Runner is down for the count as it sits for these reasons:
1) Won't pass California's emissions. It's registering high nox ratings at 15 and 25 mph. Measures 1513 at 15, and 1244 at 25. Max is 707 at 15 and 866 at 25. I took it home, cleaned out the EGR, tested a few things but it came back with the same numbers on a 2nd smog test.
2) I parked it, and now it wont start. I checked spark (pulled the coil wire and touched it to a piece of metal and got SOME spark, but not a whole lot? I expected some sort of fireworks going off under my hood, but who knows. I replaced the coil, wires, plugs, cap and rotor for the hell of it, still doesn't run.

I have suspicion that the fuel pump might be dead since a lean condition can essentially cause high nox on a smog test. The truck currently cranks, but noes goes besides that.

The biggest update? I added another Toyota to the family. I got a new job that requires some serious commuting and I've always wanted a pickup truck.

The night I brought her home:

The money shot:

Took a day trip in the truck to go shooting. Stopped on the bridge to get some pictures:

Through some HIDs in, it badly needs projector headlights now:

Put new tires on the X-Runner and America's tire discovered a cracked wheel. I tracked down a replaced 18" X-Runner specific wheel and painted them black. New wheels & tires:

When to an A's game with the lady and stopped at 21 Amendment Brewery for some grub. Snapped a shot of the truck:

That's all for now. I'll probably make a build thread for the X-runner since I already have parts piling up for it.

It's not too bad. Took it to Sac Raceway and it did a 13.7 1/4 mile. It its defense, 1st and 2nd gear are absolutely worthless no matter what speed I'm at. I spin/wheel hop to the point where it sounds like the driveshaft is about punch through the bed of the truck. A URD traction bar or a pair of Caltracs are definitely in the near future!

It's actually not too bad! I thought I was getting a little ridiculous buying a vehicle with a supercharger on It but it ended up working out anyway. It does take premium but I also get close to 400 to a tank.

Small update:
I got the 4Runner running/driving. The cap and rotor were so worn out they needed replacing as all the contacts were completely shot. Pictures to come once I can find an iPhone cord to pull the pictures off.

Thanks,
