I had fun didn't bring the truck so I was just spotting. Tried to get some video but seemed like I always ended up spotting everyone

New for the toy

I found it on craigslist, the guy sold his truck and is moving the California and needed money, so I got it brand new in the box for $150.
Now the weather needs to cool down some, so I can make my way out to the garage and install this sucker.

Ripped apart the rear end when I got home from work today, not to bad it only took me about 20 minutes. I love having an air compressor, have to take a beer break now that I got it out though.

I remember reading most of this before, all the way up until the couple posts after the wreck. I can't believe I never subscribed. It's good to catch up and I can't wait to see what happens next!

So I was planning on taking a short beer break but I think we all know how that goes

So on Saturday I had to go to Harbor Freight to get a new punch since mine was too short to push out the retaining dowel that holds the cross pin in place. Afterwards I installed the locker and got the third member all put back together but it got to hot in the afternoon to keep going.

I have noticed lately that I have had some seepage around the third member as the studs that hold it in have started to back out a bit since I have been wheeling it regularly. So today after work I decided since I am already there that I would replace them with some button head bolts from the inside and some nuts.

I was planning on installing everything today but after getting the studs out, the wife started nagging to go get something for dinner. I guess I don't have to be in much of a hurry since wheeling will be out of the question for a few weeks anyway.

Thanks, I can't really do much as the automotive field is pretty dead in my area right now so my pay checks aren't really impressive by any means lately. So with that and baby #2 on the way, I have been trying to come up with a plan to do some mods on the way cheap (or free).

There is another video of me driving into and in the rock garden that has yet to be uploaded, I will post it when I get it. The noise after I drive off the rock is the mudflap against the tire.

The bumper is now off, I just took it off today at work, I also found that I tore the inner boot on my drivers side axle.
Wow this video made me cringe so bad lol. damn i think i would have cried. lol

BTW what is that clicking noise your truck makes when you accelerate?

There are two different sounds in that video, there is the mud flap up against the tire from backing up into that rock that took the bumper off, and the other noise is a testament to how tough these 22RE motors are as it has been over 2 years now and a few thousand miles of redlines and driving it like I stole it, and the engine has still not yet exploded from that knock.
If you look at the first few pages of my build, I had a long block waiting for when it did decide to give, but never did. So after the accident, I sold the long block and decided to put my faith in this old truck that it will keep on going on a not so regular basis.

The plans are to someday when I get the time and materials is to stick that solid axle under the front with some links, dual case it and wheel the piss out of it.

The trail is called Cedar Tree, it is at the Tillamook State Forest OHV park, we usually run a little more technical trail up there called Firebreak Five where the rock garden is that I ripped the bumper off on, then run Cedar Tree back down, its a real simple scenic trail that doesn't get to technical.

Your 4Runner is pretty nice, looks like a good start, makes me wish that my Pickup would have stayed straight and clean sometimes.

Well I dont plan to keep it stock looking but i do want it to look as clean as possible. I'm either gonna keep the charcoal/black look going or if i ever go through with the paint job, i wanna paint the truck white with black accessories(bumpers, roofrack, rims, sliders etc) I am also planning on doing the SAS Sometime this year actually. If you look through my thread you'll see everything ive gathered so far. I plan to SAS, and put on a 4" lift on Rough country front shocks and rancho rear with 4 Walker Evan shocks, 5.29 gears, with an AuburnGear front locker and a Spartan Locker in the rear. Have the CBI bumper in the front, with the winch, offroad lights, tire carrier in the rear. oh and some 35" tires. yea its gonna look really sweet when im done with everything. Time and $$$ is always a problem for me though lol

When do you plan to get your kit together?

I have the axle, its torn down for rebuilding and I have gussets for it that need welded on, I have backing plate eliminators. I dont really plan that well so I have just been having fun wheeling it as ifs right now, I hope to have it done by the end of the year, but I wont be surprised if it doesnt happen.

You should call trail gear, or all pro. Scotty C from addicted offroad. And get quotes from them to see what it would cost to get all the parts you're missing shipped out to you. Just tell them what you already have and they'll take those parts out of the order.
Won't hurt to find out. And at least this way you know how much to expect to have to save up.
I am gonna have to get $2800 or so for all my missing parts in the SAS kit, lift kit, axle rebuild kit, rear gears and locker.

The way I am wanting to do it, it will be 3 linked so there is no real kit for it. Trail Gear has a kit, but it is Uber expensive for what it is and will only work with full hydro steering, so mine will be a one off set up.

Boy that sounds familiar. Haha

Ive *heard* the TG 3 Link kit will still work with highsteer, they just recommend hydro..

Have you checked out the rufstuff 3 link kits?

I have heard that you can make the Trail Gear kit work but you have to move that panhard bracket, and it still comes down to the price of the kit which I think is a bit much.

I have checked out Ruffstuff, I actually emailed him about his kits a while back, the price seems fair. When I do go ahead with it, I am thinking I will either get a kit from Ruffstuff or I will get the stuff from Ballistic.

I had a car at work yesterday that had a broken hood latch cable, I removed the cable and went to throw it in the trash and then I thought "I could use this for something" So on lunch I went to the local bicycle shop and bought a hand brake lever.

This is it mounted

I now can control my clutch, brake and throttle all at once.

It wasn't long enough to reach the throttle body so I hooked it up to my pedal.

Very nice I've considered doing that but just don't know when I'd use it so haven't done it
