J.engen 89 4runner build

Few months ago I acquired a 90 4Runner 3.0 with a fried auto for free hoping to get parts for my 79 build, knowing none of the parts worked I pick it up anyways thinking I'll just build up a 4Runner too. Couple weeks later I found a 89 3.0 manual, motor has a knock but a good tranny.

I recently had just started work on them both, pulled each motor, tranny and transfer case all together simply just planning on swapping the manual tranny to the good running 3.0 that had the fried auto.

Not paying any attention to the two wiring harnesses being different on both the tranny connections and ecu plugs, question is should I switch the two harnesses or rewire some plugs? Should also note that previous owner cut one plug off inside the firewall and down by tranny on the manual harness.

Will post some pics soon

Okay so I've decided to just use my automatic ecu computer intstead of the manual due to the fact my main three plugs for the ecu on the new motor I am using are different.

I've read about using the auto ecu and tricking it into thinking its in neutral but got confused with all the wiring. What all will I have to change as far as wiring if I'm using a stock chassis that had a manual tranny but all I'm changing is using a auto ecu? Thanks hope someone can help!

Got the chassis pulled in the other day to thaw, first thing I did was rip the running boards off and start gutting the interior

Cleaned up the interior and got some bed liner down.

I have one stock aluminum rim stuck on the driver side hub, nothing has seem to work yet including heat. Also need to change the pilot bearing so the manual tranny lines up

That is a great looking runner you have. I have seen the rims stick before and can be a real pain to get off. I used a sledge hammer and just had to keep hitting the tire on both sides while it was jacked up and on some stands.

Yeah that's how I got the other three off but the last one has been the worst! I've tried some kroil and even the torch but no luck yet will keep at it.

The plan for the build is keep it street legal unlike my 79 yet still wheelable for the most part. Once the engine is in and running great I'm gonna start building front and rear tubed bumpers, sliders and a roof rack. For now I wanna run some 33's with a mud terrain type lug, may eventually do a small lift and 35's but not sure yet. Rear end will be locked and still tossing around the idea to do an electric locker up front

I have a 3" body lift off a parts truck I have that will work on the 4Runner, for now I was thinking of installing it and I got an offer for 5 33" bfg mud terrains that I may go get this weekend.

Fourth wheel finally came off when I hooked it to my 7.3 and towed it 10 feet up out of the way to get around it, wasn't the greatest way for it to come off but I'm not complaining. No damages or anything so onward with the build now

Scored yet another set of 15x10 wheels for free! They are literally new too. It's given me more incentive to work on the 4Runner since its been awhile just need to figure this wiring out, only thing holding me back from starting it up

Great to hear you got the rim off. I have spent a few days on things like that myself. Got to do what you can sometimes.
