New shoes?

New shoes?
Howdy all. Read on forum that 31/10.5 fit the stock wheels on my 94 pickup. A friend of mine who knows everything suggested I keep the little tires. He sighted mpg, gearing, and abuse on the ball joints. I don't take the 2wd 4 banger off road, my 79 fj is good for that. So, the upgrade would be a matter of comfort, I'm tall and find it easier to get in and out of something higher off the ground, and aesthetics, just think the beef looks better. So what's the verdict...mpg? Gearing? Ball joint ware? Is my friend full of crap or just jealous? Thanks.

Just to help you out: Post some SPECS regarding your truck.
From what I can tell, it's a 2wd? If so, there's tons of information already out there! Just google search "yotatech biggest tire size 2wd":

To summarize, 31/10.5 will NOT fit without LOTS of cutting of the firewall, rolling of the fenders, beating on the welds, and removal of the fender liners. Stick with the 235's, IMO.
OR, you can throw a 2-3 inch body lift on it with the 31/10.5 and call it done.
To address your other issues: MPG WILL be affected, but will still outdo most 4x4 trucks. The gearing might be noticeable at first, with harder starts on inclines, but it shouldn't be too bad. Lastly, the ball joints should be fine, unless you're freeking jumping your truck or Dukes of Hazzard'ing it..
Good luck, man!
