I would avoid a drop in liner as well. I put one in when I bought my 97 Taco new. Heard the talk about the movement, pulled the liner 3 years later and sure enough I would have been better off with out it. A few winters in Buffalo were not kind to the bed with that thing on it. Had it Linex'ed.

Edit-didn't read the whole exchange before I posted. You got lucky with your previous drop in liner I am not sure if you can even get one anymore...

Truck looks good with out the cap..

sorry to harp on something dead but those throw in bed liners are garbage PO had one in now i have a nice rust line on the side of my bed there was also about to buckets worth of dirt under it somehow if i did a lot of heavy hauling i would leave it in but other than throwing the bird dogs in the bed it dosent get alota use that p0r 15 stuff is realy cool stuff pricey but cool

one of the doctors i work for did his whole CJ-5in it looks good and is like a second coat of steel its what i will do with my bed one of these days

does the exhaust leak sound like a valve tap? If so its on your exhaust manifold gasket. Or it could be the donuts in the collector. Past that you just need to run the truck and trace your hand over the whole exhaust length, but you knew that.

i think it's one of the collector gaskets. those are cheap, right? and they're the only ones i didn't replace when i did my rebuild. it's annoying that i can't get my hand (safely) up there to feel for the leak

and do the left two spark plugs look abnormal to anyone? (the half-white, half-black thing)

Yes the collector gaskets are cheap. They need to be replaced Everytime. Do you also have the exhaust secured to the bracket on the bell housing? That will wear those donuts prematurely.

i do have the exhaust secured to the bellhousing bracket. you're saying that having it secured will wear the gaskets?

no, i'm saying not having the bracket messes up the donuts. I have had trucks in the past that the u-bolt holding it on broke, and wasn't replaced.
