irab88's 1993 PickUp Build-Up Thread

gotta love craigslist! i had to drive more than 4 hours to pick it up, but the guy knocked $50 off. now i just have to get a small oba setup. i was looking at something similar to the "ultra-light duty viair system" with a small compressor and tank. anyone know of a good brand? i was also thinking of making a tank out of pipe (for compactness) or a spent fire extinguisher bottle. thoughts, anyone?
(i'd love an oasis compressor, buuuutt... $$$)

Hey Ian, ....sweet find! Wish I could add something useful in the realm of "any ideas on OBA sources?" ...but other than the AC located one, .... not really sure on a smaller one. Maybe keep your eyes open on CL and such, ....GOTTA be one popping up SOONER than later, yeah?
Truck's getting 'SICKTASTIC', Ian!
lol.

Just finished reading your air intake/battery swap thread, very nice write up. I had a few questions but noticed the thread hadn't been touched in a while. I'm going to have to find the time to read this thread too. Subscribed.

hey, on any of my threads, don't hesitate to ask. it keeps questions organized and topics relevant. so if you have a question on the swap, go ahead and ask it on the thread.
and i just had a thought: what if i used the compressor for the shocks on my locker? i think it would work fairly well if i also had a small tank

ok, so for installing my air locker (just the locker, not the compressor), i'm following this method, as it combines fsm instructions with those from arb. anyone have suggestions for installing? (i might also take it to a shop where they do it for under $200)

I'm working my way through your thread, on page 17 and no way near the end yet, and I see these pics. There were more, but those two were my favourites. Can't believe no one said anything about them because I think they're fantastic. Looking forward to getting current with your thread. Great stuff so far, I'll be stealing some of these ideas.

thanks! i like taking pictures like that... it has a neat effect that says "it looks normal, but it's not"
and all my ideas are open-source, so feel free to take any and all. i'm more than happy to help out

update: this weekend, i'm working on getting the second seat in. it's more tricky than the last. i made a bar that goes along the back with two bolts welded up. in the front of the seat, only one hole lines up. so i'm making a small bracket for the other side. the tracks mount to the seat in the exact same way the driver's seat does. i'm even going to re-install the driver's side slide adjustment lever, as it's loose now.
and before someone says: "pics?"--- i'll have them up tomorrow or monday

yes, it would be more spacious. i'm going to do that to the driver's side tomorrow. but the passenger's side is a bit more complicated. i'm using driver's side tracks on the passenger's side. also, there are 4 different mounting heights on the driver's side tracks (as used on the passenger's side). so if i moved it over to the outside hole, i would need to make 3 brackets, as opposed to the 2 i'm making now

thanks mark. and yeah, everything is just fine over here. hope you get that thing fired up soon enough.
for these seats, i'm making transition brackets, so there's no cutting or drilling of the seat tracks or truck

time for pics:
getting the rails to fit the seat is the same as the driver's side: tap the furthest back holes and elongate the track holes slightly. then extend the adjustment lever. (i re-mounted the driver's side because it was loose. it's the uglier of the 2 welds)
slight bending of the cross-piece

and the modified adjustment levers

ready to paint

now for the brackets i used

the one hole that lines up. it's the highest, so i had to use it as the start point to use as few brackets as possible

aaand paint (self-etching black)

trimmed bolts

and now to install

ta-da!

and i tried moving the driver's seat, but it sat diagonal and lop-sided, so i just painted those brackets, too

thanks guys. especially rb, for the use of his shop (100 times better than mine) and a space in his driveway for the weekend.
mark- glad to hear that you got all your missing power back, and good luck on the oil pan. it must be nice to be able to relax a bit
