Yup. Hopefully I get a break in the work action soon. The tile and hardwood floor jobs are piled up and I've been going pretty much 7 days a week for months.

Got the header coated today. vht flameproof paint. Next step is to get flange welded on. Waiting on parts. Decided to do all the front end motor stuff while I have it apart. So ordering the water pump, oilpump, chain and guides..etc Might as well. Even though the old ones only have 20k on them.
Gonna get rad boiled for peace of mind too.
Flirting with painting valve cover this color....

Last weekend on Power Block TV, dont remember which show it was, but it was telling about how to correctly apply that paint or maybe it was the header paint.
I always liked seeing a motor painted to compliment the exterior of the body. Think it would look good and shows that you put some effort and thought into it.

Ok last of the parts ordered from engnbldr. Just did em on ebay.
Got the timing cover, chain with steel rail, waterpump, oil pump, head bolts, and a gasket set.
Should be all I need. Noticed...one bolt from the oil pump is missing on truck..have no idea how that came out.
Ill post a pic tomorrow...and maybe someone has one paying around.

Got the header parts from lc today. Stud kit, gaskets, flange..etc.
Gonna get the flange welded on tommorow. Then it will be a matter of getting the last of the engnbldr stuff. Then its showtime.
Spraying all the exhaust studs down several times with pb blaster has pretty much melted any rust away from the bolts. So i bet the give me no trouble.

Got the header welded up today. Looks good to go. Finished the paint on the welded section. Done.
Now it's just a matter of waiting on parts. I'm gonna get her in the garage and tear her down Sat eve/sunday. Cant wait to drive her again.

Well...got into her today. Drained oil. I mean choco milk...lol.
Pulled radiator. Shroud. Exhaust manifold. Upper intake.
My PB Blaster soaking paid off. Bolts/nuts came off effortlessly.
Only worked couple hours. Labeled some stuff. I was kinda taken aback
at the amount of hoses. Jeez.
Radiator is original brass. Gonna either douche it with clr at home or maybe
get it tanked.
Got my headgasket and some black and grey seal packing from toyota today.
They were out of red coolant. Any suggestions? ebay?
Pics..
Chocolate milk anyone?

Gad to see you tearing it down. The choclate milk came out of the oil pan? Wonder what PO did to it. Labeling is handy for the hoses. For the parts that you can, put the bolts back in that wont be going to machine shop, makes it alot quicker for assembly.
Another thing I do is get tote bins and use one for the head, one for the plenum and fuel rails and such. It keeps all of the componets together and no lost nuts and bolts. It also keeps the bolts that are similar to each other to their correct componets as well.
I use to tag and bag bolts, but that can get confusing in some areas. Still have to occasionally but nearly as much I used too. Hope this helps.

No need for machine shop...just doing the head gasket. Motor only has 20k on full rebuild. Compression was 170 across the board. New head and cam as well as my header I restored. So at least I dont have to spend cash on machine shop.
As far as the oil being milkshaked...the head gasket has blown between #4 and a water passage. So water was getting blown out exhaust while runnning...but as engine cooled off...it was drawn into #4 cylitnder...running
past rings into pan. After I got it back from jo bob the guy I sold it to...it had #4 cylinder full of water..so it was hydro locked. Pulled #4 plug andd cranked it..shot water out. Put plug back in..fired right up...but after shutting down and cooling off....it would suck water back into #4. The head Im taking off was brand new 20k ago. I just figured Im pep her up if I had her tore down. I doubt I even need to do oil pump, water pump and timing cover...but hey parts are cheap and might as well do em while apart.
Gonna tear her down some more after bit. Im in no hurry..she's a toy not a daily driver.
I have alot of exp in working on motors and such. Even went to tech school for it a million years ago...just ended up in a different field.

Got back to work this afternoon for a lil bit. Got the lower intake off...alternator...power steering pump..and HEAD.
Cylinder look beautiful. Plastic guides intact. Everything looks great.
Head gasket looked delaminated around #4.
