GreenYoda's 1995 4Runner Build-Up Thread

About 2-3 months ago I aquired a 95 4runner from work (I work for a towing company, the vehicle was abandoned with bad rod knock)

Once we got title I yanked the motor and rebuilt it, then found out the title work was ˟˟˟˟ed up, and the truck HAD to goto the crusher (BS in the dmv)

So I parted it out, made a quick $1200 and sent it off to the crusher.

a few weeks later I bought another 95 4runner from a customer who blew the clutch and the head gasket was leaking for $500 + a free tow.

Truck #1

Motor Out

1 spun bearing, 2 bent rods, and one messed up crank shaft

A mess

new parts

painted up, looking good

Yoda #2

Motor out

Motor in, also put a new clutch in

the vacuum nightmare wasnt as bad as I thought

up, running, and drove it home

took the running boards off, then decided it was a good time to test fit my 36's and start building a front bumper.

fenders? we dont need no stinkin fenders

Front bumper is starting to take shape, going to try to get some more work done on it tomorrow if work is slow

Coil springs are here, now I just need to find a solid axle for up front

Thats All I have for now, will post more pics as I go

Looks like you made quick work of getting it going. Welcome to YT. I know what you mean about the dmv and the paperwork on titles. Alot of good cars get crushed for that very reason. Looking forward to seeing more of your build.

Thanks, im hoping this 85 mini truck axle is still available on tuesday (my next day off)

$100 on CL, missing the 3rd member, but thats ok, cause Id like to get an elocker for it.

Im hoping I have an e-locker for the rear, and a 3.4 motor (for free) came into work with heavy front end damage, runs great still, they supposedly have full coverage on it, but its been released for almost 3 weeks now, and the insurance company hasn't even called about it.

SAS + 6-7" of lift w/coil springs
Custom fenders/fender flares (thick steel, good for running into things with)
exo-cage

thinking about dual t-cases, havent done research on it yet, but I have an extra t-case.

also, either gonna turbo the 3.0, or If this 96 4runner gets abandoned at work, im gonna take the 3.4 out of that, rebuild it, and S/C it.

still contemplating chopping the top

exo-cage is probably going to come next after the lift... I know im gonna roll it at some point

front bumper is almost done, all the pieces are cut, just have to finish welding everything, add a few gussets on the back side (its all 3/16" plate w/ 1/2" brackets, but I need this thing to withstand a good hit), then lots of grinding, also have to make eyelets.

oh, and some paint and or truck bed coating.

Front axle, appears to be from an 85, missing 3rd member and rotor/caliper on one side. I plan on using IFS hubs so no big deal.

almost 2ft of coil

going to have to get this thing into the shop at work and grind off the brackets and start making some spring perches

Got a few hiem joints today for the control arms, im hoping they are strong enough, 3/4" shank

My control arms will look something like this when done, im just hoping 1.5" tube will be strong enough, I suppose if they bend they bend, and back to the steel yard for round #2

Where did you get the rear springs from? I am having a hell of a time finding coils that will match my 6in front lift and the set-up now sucks.

http://www.ironrockoffroad.com/Merch...egory_Code=PFW

they are actually for a jeep grand cherokee, spring rate is slightly stiffer, but by the time I cage it, load it with gear, bumpers etc, I should be close to the same weight

Which ones did you get and do you think they are gonna go right in? I already am lifted but the last owner welded a 3-4 inch lift block in place on the axle and I want to correct this.

I am questioning for the rear of my 2nd gen 4runner. Are u using the same coils front and rear?

they probably will not just fit right in, im going to be fabing some spring perches for them, but yes, same coils front and rear.

I used WJ springs, but depending on how loaded up you are, you might want to look into XJ or TJ springs (cherokee/wrangler) as they will have a slightly softer spring than a WJ

i would get a spring rate that matches whatever the front is

Took about 2" of cutting in the rear, front I had to cut the fender a little, grind down some by where the fenders hit the door, and hit it with a hammer
