Nice im having the front SAS and rear has fj80, i also plan on running 35s so hopefully i dont have to do too much. What a steal for your truck, hope all goes well.

I thought about doing 80 axles, but people want to much money for them, from what I hear steering is an issue? although everything is going to be custom so im not really sure how much of an issue it is.

doesn't the rear axle have an offset to the pass side?

the extra width would be nice, but Im just gonna wait and pray for a set of dana 60's to come up for free/cheap (perks of my job I guess, I could have snagged up an dana 80, but I really dont think I need that much axle even if I decide to run 40"+ tires

Yea thats a nice gun rack, hahaha. My bad I meant FJ80 springs for the rear but with stock rear axle. But I'm not sure if its gonna be close to level but ohwell. One of the local guys here are actually thinking about putting the newer Tacoma rear axle in with the diff lock, which i believe is also wider and already has an e locker which I think would be pretty cool.

an e-locker would be nice, but from what I read its not really meant to be beat on.

Im wondering if the front diff is locked up 100% of the time, but you have manually locking hubs, will it act like a normal open diff as long as the hubs are unlocked?

 

It won't act like a normally open diff. Now you can make it one wheel drive(in the front) by only locking one hub then get out and lock the other side in when it is needed. But to me that seems like it would be a PITA. I am waiting on my front locker till I can afford gears and an ARB or Elocker.

 

For road driving in 2wd, with the both hubs unlocked, it will act as an open diff (diff isnt moving at all)

 

good info, I can get a locked diff (welded) for free with the whole 3rd member, It will work until I can acquire/afford a better diff.

going to have to buy some 5.29's or something though

 

ordered the rest of my heim joints today, glad I did more research on them, was able to get chromoly ones for the same price.

32,400lbs before they deform, hopefully will be good, although I dont know exactly how much force is exerted when you jump a truck (I blew the airbags in my ford ranger jumping it in some sand dunes)

$200 in heim joints, I think I got enough, with 1 or 2 extra, I hope I dont have to order more.

Still contemplating if im gonna 3 link the rear, or a 4 link, im leaning towards 4 link

not really sure, haven't really driven it, probably wont go up the hills around here (at least not fast)

I drive my work truck home 5-6 days a week

as soon as i finish up my bumper, then Im going to start building spring perches, and wait for my heim joints to come in so I can start the SAS, probably wont drive it until thats done.

im liking where this thread is going, good progress so far.

 

got some good work done today on the bumper, all my welds have been ground down smooth, and started to fab up some eyelets for my d-rings



2, 1/2" plates welded together, the whole thing was glowing red hot by the time I was done welding



filled it in a bit

 

Finally got the bumper done and on

had to re-engineer my bracket solution because I couldnt actually reach the bolts once the whole bumper was made :rofl:

I'll bring my good camera to work tomorrow and get a better pic



now its time to put all my spare time into getting ready for the SAS swap, going to get as much as I can pre-fabbed, so once I start cutting it goes together quickly.

Gotta get some DOM for my lower control arms on tuesday, $10/foot for 1.5" OD, .25" wall

pretty much just a trail rig, but yea, ill drive it on the street once and a while... I have a few other vehicles, so DDing it is not a concern

yep, being on call 24/7 sucks, but at least I get to do recoveries on jeeps regularly
