Gennro's turbo 22re, standalone build-up!

I figured I would do a separate build up thread for me turbo charging my 1986 4runner with a 22re.

The engine has a Engbldr 261C cam, Pacesetter header, 8 degrees of timing, and an adjusted AFM. Well thats not enough power.

First thing first was to check compression with a semi warm engine and dry cylinders I got 150psi +/- 1 across all cylinders. Timing chain and guides have been replaced. The engine holds a good oil pressure also.

So I ordered all my parts......
Garret T25 turbo, fast spool
Microsquirt V3 + GM 3 Bar map
EDIS-4, the distributor is going away.
Building my own log style turbo manifold
Rising rate fuel pressure regulator
315cc 13 ohm 7mge injectors
ARP head studs, will be replacing the head gasket.
Small intercooler that will be mounted on top of the skid plate.
LC-1 Innovate Wideband
Prosport Oil pressure guage and boost guage
Full 3" exhaust all the way back.
AISIN OEM clutch.
All new gaskets.

I am now just waiting for parts to come in the mail.
I should be doing the head gasket swap and install the microsquirt this weekend if everything comes in. So stay tuned.

A little background on me. I have been installng/tuning megasquirt style standalones on vehicles for the past 6 years. Anything from motorcycles, jeeps, and 400 plus horsepower turbo charged cars.

Oh yeah here is what I am starting with.

Alright got all the stuff in to start the turbo manifold.

The Hobart!

Here is the nice 5/8" thick flange to start with.

One side cut and fitted.

Other side cut and fitted.

Welded up, don't mind the welds using flux core so doesn't look pretty. Getting good penetration though.

Center piece cut and fitted and tacted in place.

All done for now. Just waiting on the T25 turbo to show up so I can install the flange!

Also here are my 7M-GE injectors 315cc 13ohm. This is after that sat in the ultrasonic for 3 hours and new orings installed. Part number is 23250-70080

Awesome build ya got going. Good Choice of turbo , should spool up nicely down low and be able to use it. I've boosted many Hondas , but wish I had more experiance with stand alone systems.

I have a feeling this kind of work is a bit to much for these forums.....

The engine will be coming out this weekend to install the 36-1 crank trigger and replace all the gaskets, clean up the engine, and replace the headgasket.

running a stand alone I think you're gonna be able to actually take advantage of all the mods.

Hmmmmmm were to start today.
Engine is removed from the 4runner.
ARp head studs installed. Engine looks fantastic. No pitting or corrosion between the head and the block.

Intake and valve cover painted with VHT wrinkle coat.

Oil feed for the turbo installed.

EGR block off made.

Oil return installed.

36-1 Crank trigger installed for the EDIS-4

Distributor plug installed. Using a freeze plug.

Here is the Microsquirt V3. Really small.

Now just waiting for the gaskets to show up and the engine will be ready to go back into the 4runner.

Its being built for off road. This build thread is just for the turbo charging. I have a whole other thread for everything else on the 4runner.

Alright, decided to add a little bit of bracing from the manifold to the T2 flange. Added some lines here and there.

Made the brackets for the mitsubishi coil packs.

Here is a picture of the other side.

Engine is back in the 4runner! Almost everything is hooked back up. Now just waiting on the correct oil feed restrictor for the turbo to show to install all of that.

nice and clean. can't wait for real world numbers on this. my current 22re is basically the exact same setup you started with so it will be nice to compare notes.
