Ok so I have been lurking for a few weeks now and decided I want to start my build thread. I got my new to me 1993 4x4 XtraCab as a trade for my old motorcycle as I needed a winter vehicle and wanted something I could put a car seat in for my son.
I haven't done much yet as I just got it a few weeks ago, but I was able to replace the radio with a 7" touchscreen and I had to put on a new idler arm to pass inspection.
Here are a few pics of it when I got it.
A list of things I want to do and add would include:
Soft Topper camper shell
Roof rack off my old blazer
Cut out Fender flares
Bed liner
rhino liner half way up the truck
Rear tube bumper
Headlight guards
Under seat safe
Carputer
Maybe a lift and bigger tires.
Also there is a lot of frame rust that I need to fix sooner rather then later.
Thanks, this forum is AWESOME! Crazy enough the tires are actually retreads. Im not to sure how bad the rust is yet, I will try to post some pics up later of the rust so maybe I can get some ideas on how to repair it. :-)
Hey nice looking truck,i see you said you had alot of frame rust, you should clean it up the best you can and coat it with MasterSeries Silver rust paint. It is a moisture cured urethane and is awesome.Best of all the price is great!! PM me for more info on this product.Way easier to use than POR15.
Thanksgiving brake is about to come to an end, but it has been productive. I was able to take my truck to my wifes grandfather and he along with my father-in-law and myself were able able to take the bed off my truck and get the frame rust fixed up. I still have to take it back there in the spring time to get the body rust fixed but this will certainly get me through winter.

We also replaced the dead shocks, fixed my e-brake and replaced 5 rusted out brake lines. I have to say my father-in-law and grandfather-in-law are awesome to help me out as much as they did the 2 days it took to do all this work. Though it might have something to do with my son (their grandson / great grandson) riding in the truck alot with my wife and me.
Great work on the rust repair. That is one thing that I absolutely hate dealing with year after year. I guess I could prevent it by not driving in the winter but I love driving it.
Thanks for the comments, I am super grateful that my in-laws are so helpful. There was a ton of rust but most of it ended up being the old undercoating and a lot of surface rust. So it wasn't too bad to fix up once we got the bed off of it.
Well I was able to pick up a welder over Christmas break, so on the one warm day we got (40 Degrees) I set out to work on the rusted out bed panel on my truck.
Daylight only lasted long enough to get one patch done, but with a little bondo and some primer that wasn't spraying nicely in the cold. I got one patch somewhat completed. It still needs another coat of bondo and some good sanding, then some real primer, but I don't think it turned out half bad for my first attempt at any form of body work.
Sorry, no before pics other then the ones at the top of the thread. I was on a one ways track to get it done and thought about picks after the rust was cut out...
Since it is starting to warm up a bit I have been able to start working on the truck again. (When the wife lets me of course)
This last weekend I was able to fix the parking brake cable that I broke a few weeks ago and I was able to get another patch welded onto the truck bed side. I think I only have one more body patch left then I can look at paint and berliner on the bed sides.
Before
After
One day when I have money I will buy fender flares and that will cover most of that patch.
