?!?!?!?!? Dude... sounds like your Quail have the plague! Well, I truly hope it turns around for you, and for them. Not only do we lose out on the fun, but so do the dogs. You have a picture of this bumper yet? I haven't seen a rear ranch hand bumper yet.

Yes it is a bad deal. If we dont do something soon, quail will be extinct as a wild species. I'll snap a pic and post it and give a brief description of what I'm going to do. (or at least what I plan to do at this point...as these things tend to progress while being done.)...

This is my platform for my front bumper. I'll make brackets to mount it. Its heavy duty and will give me a class 3 to mount my winch, which is already on a winch mount platform which goes in a class 3 receiver.

As you can see it is heavy duty.

These are what I'm using for the sides as I will have to cut some width off them, these I will weld and modify to be the rearward sweeps to protect the fenders.

Quickie Rear tube bumper. See what happens when a freaking tiny little Chevy car rear ends me next time. This time the trailer hitch took the brunt of it. Should have seen it, opened that car up like a can opener.
No build pics, was too simple a build. Wanted something clean and strong and simple on the back. All free material went into it. Simple square tube welded to the weird drop downs off the frame and then to the hitch which is also welded to the frame, should make it all stronger for recovery and towing all around.

So I finished modifying and mounting the ranch hand onto the 4 runner. Here are some quick pics.

HAHAHA GET OUT DA WAY!!!

These I used for the sides came out of the scrap pile. No idea where they came from.

Center Support bottom

Cut holes for the flashers...

Rattle Can butification and...DONE!

Total build time about 2.5 hours. I'm happy with it. Cows beware...Get out da way!!!

Oh, and on the 2nd pic above, I ended up diagonally bracing where I welded the ranch hand to the frame mount extenders I put on there to get the correct width with some heavy flat steel. I really doubt its going anywhere. I bet I could drive up to a tree and "Push it" and spin the rear tires and it would not move...

I could pick it up and move it myself. Its heavier for sure than the suggestion of a bumper that was on there. I figure with the removal of the old and the install of the new I added about 100 + - pounds. Worth it for the kind of crap I do to that thing.
