Drew02a 1991 4Runner Build-Up Thread

1991 4Runner, Manual Transmission, 4x4

Just like the Tacoma, my plan is to build an expedition vehicle that is capable of handling very diverse difficult terrains and can drive cross country to find them. Only difference is that I want to be able to tow a trailer.

In the works 3.4L V6 Swap

Front Suspension
Blazeland Long Travel from Blazeland.us
Bilstein 5125 Shocks, 8.5" Travel 255/70 Valving from Downsouth Motorsports
Ironman 26mm Torsion Bars from Camel 4x4
Aisin Manual Hubs

Rear Suspension
Leaf Spring Conversion
T100 Rear axle
Dakar Leaf Springs for 2005+ Tacoma
Bilstein 5125 Shocks, 14" Travel 255/70 Valving
ARB Locker
4.56 Gears
U-Bolt Flip from Front Range Off-Road

Exterior
Modified Rear Tire Carrier
255/85/16 BFG MT KM2s
16x7.5 Tacoma TRD Offroad Alloy Rims

19" Rain-X Latitude Wipers (instead of the tiny 17" stock length)
H4 Headlight Conversion
Sylvania Silverstar Ultra H4 Bulbs

Interior
Sony CDX-GT330 with iPod Controller

From: Bryan Tx,
Nice, you can really tell how much further back that rear axle sits from you leaf spring swap. It is nice that the axle width matches the front.

It came out WAY better than I would have ever thought. I was super surprised after we had tacked everything up the first time and everything measured right.

What's up Drew, wondering how the 4runner is doing? How badly are the rear tires running into the body with the new stance? Any plans to modify the body?

I haven't been able to drive it yet. Still waiting for a my Stainless rear brake line from Marlin.

I don't think it will rub too bad and don't plan on modifying the body panels much if at all.

Well when you get the rear brake line show me some stuffed pictures of the rear. I also did long travel up front and I'm trying to figure out what to do in the rear. I like the T100 axle for the width but I alreay did the e-locker swap in my axle and I'm def not a fan of spacers.

I'm bored watching Mavericks, and Blazers. Think I'll go get that pic now, lol

Here's one of the brake line installed.

I'll make myself more slack once I to the LPSV removal.

Here you go man. Believe it or not this is full stuff (leaf springs are flat)

I'm glad you asked. Looks like there's enough room to push back another inch. I think I'll do it when I install some better leaf springs. I'm planning on getting some Dakars with AAL.

I'll bet it would stuff more if I drilled some holes in the shackles a little higher up, but I'm going to wait till I have new leafs before I start dialing it in

At 54°, today was a perfect day to get some stuff done outside. So I installed the front shocks and checked for clearance. I couldn't be happier with the result.

No loading on the torsion bars

At full drop, the shock clears the UCA by about 1/4"

Wasn't able to get the suspension to stuff ALL the way, but I got it close, and there was still about an inch of clearance left

blazeland LT kit

Did you cut the stops at all?
why did you use differnt shocks then what blazland recomends?
How are the T-bars?

I have the LT kit too and I used OME T-bars and 5100 shocks.
I left the stops for now. I need a uni ball tie rod to droop it more, it maxes out as of now.(tierod)

the OME tbars are plenty strong for this LT kit.infact i may turn them down a little but I like the high stance.

I didn't cut the bump stops, because when I was testing the CV's were already binding just a little bit at full drop.

I used a different shock configuration, because I wanted to have options. These shocks are a little bigger. Though, the biggest reason was that I wanted to be able to use reservoir shacks if I felt like it. Fox makes one that will fit if I ever decide to go that route.

I haven't put these T-Bars to the test yet, but so far I like them on speed bumps, lol. I chose Ironman instead of OME because I heard that OMEs will sag, and I'm going to have a good amount of weight up front when it's all said and done (3.4L V6, Front Bumper, Winch)

I've thought about having my buddy Rob (Yotarob2005) hook me up with some unibal tie rods, but I don't think I need them right now.

NP man. The blazeland kit is one of the main reasons I bought this 4Runner in the first place. I had a 2006 Tacoma and was thinking about doing LT. Instead of dropping 3-4K, I decided to sell the Taco and buy 2 rigs for the money I had tied up in it. Modifying/ fixing this thing is soo much cheaper.

Got the Dakars in. I decided to move the axle back a little more, and the drive shaft separated, lol.

Waiting for the new U-bolt flip to arrive, need to make the shackles shorter, get a longer drive shaft, get some shocks, and I'm good to go.

Also, I don't think I'm going to need the AAL.

Got some 14" Bilstein 5125s stuffed under the rear end today. I'm super excited about how they came out.

Here's the lower mounts I fabbed up

And the Upper Mounts

Decided to test the flex out with the Forklift at Keith's shop. Results = AMAZING

First I tested to see how far the rear would drop

Then we busted out the fork lift and jacked up the rear tire till the front one started to come off the ground

Then we lifted a front tire

I'd say pretty good flex for any rig. But obviously, there's always something better.

Right now it handles pretty well on the road, I can't wait to get my bent spindle replaced and then another alignment though.
