I finally got around to making an account on here after lurking forever.
Ive done a lot of stuff since i came across this runner but better late than never. This should be a good place to keep the progress organized im thinking.

I got this thing about 7 months ago from a good friend. My buddy and i immediately rebuilt the motor. We found big chunks of metal from the timing cover in the pan from when a previous chain must have snapped. So we just replaced everything besides the crank,rods, and pistons. New head and all.
Been through quite a lot since then. Lots of adventures, trails, mud, sticky situations. But overall its been extremely good to me.
Even though the throttle cable did snap on the way to work yesterday and its impossible to get one locally. Shoe string through the firewall got it home.
It would have been quite the sight for anyone sitting passenger.. Left foot clutch, right knee steering, left hand throttle string, and right hand shifting. I felt like a one man band trying to limb this thing home hahah.
I got some flares on it and a set of 33x 12.5's kelly safaris. 15x10 american racing hurricane rims.
Addicted offroad bumper ordered and softtop by summer im hoping. Lets see how far i get in this adventure mobile build.

Thanks dude. They are bushwackers. I think they are 3 inch flares. Theres not many flare options ive found for this truck. So if you google bushwackers for it they should show right up.
I had to replace the throttle cable on my 87 a while back. I tried fixing mine and I tried a junkyard one. The OEM one is around $90 but I finally broke down and bought one. I suggest you do the same. It makes the throttle so smooth and easy to press, just like new (of course). Pricey but worth it.
Looks like a nice truck in nice shape. Looking forward to seeing more.

Thanks man. And yea, thats what i ended up doing. I got it to my shop with a shoe string and then used a piece of piano wire to replace the cable and just bent it on either end to hold it on. I got it home like that but its sketchy.
No parts stores carry that cable. Napa, advance or autozone. And the 3 pick and pulls around me also came up dry. And i could only find 2 places online that carried it. But they both linked to the same store. So one i guess.
It was like 70 bucks. But they didnt offer expidited shipping. And i ordered it two days ago and it hasnt shipped yet lol. Ahh the joy of owning a 30 year old truck :p
Today i got this leveling/ "drop" kit installed. It was relatively easy and straight forward. The kit i got came with awesome instructions.
I had to cut the upper control arms a little bit. I just cut two slots and then used vice grips to bend the metal backwards enough to get the spacer in.
Not much to say about it. It went well. Tons of positive camber now though, i have an alignment scheduled for two days from now.
After cutting and beating the hell out of my floors and inner fender well back to the cab mount, i got these 33"s to be able to turn full lock without rubbing. But only on flat ground. So this small 1.5" "lift" i think should help it out enough where i wont have problems anymore. Hopefully.
Only downside i noticed is that it rides super bouncy now. But if thats the worst of it.. Then thats alright.

Been a long week with the runner. New ball joints tie rods. Broken axel new axel. Broken hub fixed hub. Alignment.
Still waiting on the tube bumper but i did pick up an old warn m8000 winch which im super excited about. Keep it vintage.
I got led on an awesome trip today by the previous owner. Hes got a kickass volvo wagon hes been building and it kicked ass. Hes also a sick photgrapher so i got the coolest pics afterwards. Good day.

Wow its been a while. 4runner has really been on the back burner. After i lost the headgasket on the 3rd 22re last 4th of july it has just been sitting. I took the motor out of it a few weeks ago and bought a 2003 tundra v8. Looking forward to doing this swap and making this truck pretty.
The more i day dream about it the more questions i have.
Is it better just to do a body swap.. So that all the tundra componant stay aligned and good. Wont have to make driveshafts... The running gears are built for the power... Yes its 15 inches wider... And substantially longer. Could shorten the frame... Keep the width and just have a beefy 1st gen 4runner.
Otherwise.. I keep the original stuff and hope the axles dont brake under power? I dont plan on beating on it. Just want the reliable power for towing and such.
No i dont want to do the 3.4 swap.
Ill try to keep this thread updated. Still waiting on delivery of the tundra at this point. Bought a 95 4runner to fix and flip in the meantime to keep me busy.
