Well wouldn't ya know, the guy sold it when he said I could see it first(86 pickup), hate that I missed that, seemed like a really good deal. Also got an email from the engine stand guy and apparently he doesn't have it anymore:/
In some good news, last night was senior prom and my girlfriend and I got prom king and queen!

Hahaha, I'm not sure about me being a gauge for I'm doing things right, heehee... But I think you are! I wanted to also congratulate you on the honor of being king and queen! Yes, I'm sure it seems corny to many, including some of your friends I'm sure, lol.... But, knowing what a class act young man you are, I think it more so says that they noticed that you are that - 'more and more rare these days', "Solid, ambitious, DIY" - type young adult!
Keep killing it! In life, hobbies and all other things, settle within yourself for nothing less then all you are capable of and I have a feeling you will do really well.

I purchased my engine stand at advance auto parts for 60.00 bucks. I then went to local hardware and bought 4 longer Bellhousing bolts to use with my stand.

@Kornhusker
I'll let you know if I find one, but if you find one before me, let me know!
@Gizler
Yeah like 50 or so miles...little more than an hour, checking craigslist a few more days first, see a lot come up but there all so far away:/ I feel after I buy one, its just gonna be a wall flower, everyone that I know that has one hardly ever uses it, but they sure are nice when ya need em!
@Cyber
Thanks, too bad I don't get a motor jack/stand as a prize haha
@Chef
Thanks for the kind words! I like DIY, my step dad has taught me how wrong some people do there jobs these days. Like building houses, were in the process of redoing things on ours because the first time it was built, A lot of corners were skipped. They just knocked out block and left them laying(It was a hole for a duct line) It was a unclean job and even led to cracking of blocks near it. We just recently cut out the old broken up block and had our masonary friends come replace them, now there is just a slight hole for the duct. Makes for less passage of rodents(lots of critters here in the sticks) and a much cleaner job!
@ToyotaBoy
yeah I have heard of people using better/bigger bolts and etc. I'm sure there not needed, but sure it helps! I mean these motors aren't super heavy from what I have read.
Okay in truck news! Wa-hoo haha
I have yet to order anything, but have like holy 20 tabs up of what I'm wanting and where from.
I talked to my friend who works at the local toyota dealer, lets just say I'm removing the head now, I'm not knacking the way people do it with the head on, but he hasn't had much luck that way...which makes me wary. To me, it's just making more sense to do it once, the harder way than twice the easy, then hard way. So it sounds like a engine stand and hoist are in order, 1. because he said no harder than it was to pull it, I might as well, 2. I'm wanting to learn how and possibly clean up my engine bay, paint my block, list goes on and on, etc.....browsing the internet/local classifieds and Valley Trader for these things.
Hmmm do any of you fellas have like a local classified newspaper....We have one called the Valley Trader. Basically its just a big newspaper of classifieds(40 pages, weekly), people put anything and everything in there.
I was talking with my Toyota guy and I asked what all he would reccommend replacing besides the guides, the oil pump, and the water pump.
Here's the list he said, he said he may have missed a thing or two...
Distributor O-ring
Exhaust Gaskets
Timing Cover Gaskets(Planned on doing Timing Cover)
Crank Seal
Oil pump O-ring
Chain itself
Chain guides
Timing Chain Tensioner
Cam Gear
Crank Gear
Valve Cover Gasket
Two half moon grommets on valve cover
Thermostat
Head Gasket
Head Bolts
Rear main seal(If I yank motor)
Hopefully throughout searching google, etc. I will put my part numbers/suppliers that I get the parts from and maybe, just maybe someone will stumble upon my thread and it will give them a good idea of what they should get and what they need. Also if you guys feel any other gaskets/parts should be done, please say something!
This isn't going to be a quick process, I'm expecting the truck to be down for at least a month, if not more. Upon doing all this, I will be giving the ole girl a tune-up
Also perhaps while she is down, we might rebuild my spare carb off my parts truck, that way if we do mess up, we have the old to stick back on. The old one leaks gas out of the looking glass and is just due to be rebuilt.
Oh and ironically, I have been on Yotatech the past few days, just never saw my thread with all the replies, anybody else get a smile when they have replies on their thread? Or is that just me

i like getting replies even if its just an oh wow
one of the junk carbs ive got for my 79 the sight glass was actually cracked in half an they (the PO) sealed it with aquarium sealant LOL no i wouldnt advise it usually its just the gasket gotten old causing the leak
good list you might want to hold on getting the gasket kit which has a majority of the seals an gaskets on the list till you get in its not a lot more if you need bearings an rings (my kit was 92 bucks) had everything an some extras as you'll have the pan off you can wiggle the connecting rods chekin to see if theres any play
you'll need a head bolt set as they dont recommend reusing them as they stretch flea bay round 20 bucks
a tap set to just clean threads out as you reassemble things i do recommend antiseiz on things so the heat cool cycles dont make it hard to remove things later on
we have several of those papers here one even lists construction an farm equipment nother does all ATV's an motorcycles i use them for fire starter (they're free) as we use wood to heat the house

Oh haha, well ours costs a $1.55 I go get one at the local conveinence store every wednesday after school. Honestly haven't gotten anything out of it,but my grandad got his 98 tacoma with 117k miles(Auto, 4wd) really good deal around here, I keep up with prices on the yotas haha
Man if there's a deal in there you have to HOP ON IT, I mean I have called the following morning and man I just had a guy come get it this morning. It's like dang haha
Hmmm yeah mine doesn't appear cracked, just old brittle gaskets
Lets see we do have a tap and die set....not sure if it would have right sizes....it's like a 30 piece set, I think?
Ummm head bolts, that does sound like a good thing to add!
Hoping my bearings and rings are good, can I ask where you got your kit? Might just buy the big kit and if I don't need the extra stuff, just keep it.
Side note, we used to do wood/oil too, my step dad just had it converted to all electric heating and cooling(thus the rerunning of duct in the previous post). Main reason for that though was because he didn't wanna be 70 and have to go cut wood and figured the price of oil was going to do nothing but continue to rise.

i typed in 22RE re ring kit (R nearly same kit) on flea bay the kits are popular as toyota used the 22 in so many vehicles and have nearly every gasket needed
the oring around the coolant bypass tube (22re's) which goes from head around the block to the other side they have a crushable seal in that that the kit didnt have we used a gas n oil resistant oring an got a great seal
also '22(r) re head bolt bam! all kinds of listings
a metric tap set is what you'll need harbor freight good option

Hastings-USA rings FTW! Hehehhee..... bit really, mine were seated in 300 miles or so (it gets hot under the hood that last part of seating).
Sankei Bearings old/new stock. Toyota.Japan or King Bearings.....
Eskinderian Dual row racing springs....
TRW stainleas oversized 22re valves.....
TRW manganese bronze guides for os valves....
261 or 268 cam engnbldr....
Viton valve seals......
Sankei cam caps or engnbldr with new cam......
Engnbldr timing kit.....
AISIN h2O and Oil pumps (or engnbldr, they can come off without complete engine disassembly)......
Head bolts(? ....just be prepared if one or more is questionable...but I'm running my original 279k mile head bolts, not an issue with a single one and I bet u 10$ they are all at 64# right now! Lol
Just go all engnbldr though, unless u wanna fish around lots..... have the whole kit ready to order if needed (make sure they have one or eill if and when u need it)

Yeah, it's kinda ow to me too, but knowing/hearing about the quality....Plus the fact I would like to see it go the next 100k. I mean say I spend 600$ in everything....what do I have....a gran in the truck....with a fresh clutch(All Toyota), head gasket(Toyota), and timing chain(mostly engbldr) sounds pretty solid to me. I mean sure there's little things here and there the truck needs....but what is a truck without a good motor and trans...
Any idea on my previous question^
