California has that and only that... surprising to see this truck lacks rust!
place hotdog here
Yeah so a couple years ago, my 3rd gen was vandalized. I never knew who did it until the person responsible came over and apologized.
Well of course I wanted my money back for the damage, and some interest would be nice. With no job, he had no way to pay me back.
Except for this:
I took it home, didn't even wash it. Put the intake manifold, throttle body, fuel rails, and some other ˟˟˟˟ back on. Fired it up, of course, being a 4.6 Ford, had bad rod knock. Threw it on craigslist and scored $2900 for it.
Immediately got to work on the 4Runner. Gotta pull this motor!
Drained coolant, removed air box and battery. The skid had a stripped bolt so the lower valance had to come off too. Got the skid off and pulled the rad. Had to go to the dentist so I only got about an hour in. Surprisingly the ATF wasn't horrid.
Ewwwww

Got my engine hoist ready. Scored it off craigslist a few months ago, me and a friend paid $50 each for it. I'll let the pictures do the talking:
Didn't have the chain level thing, but a tow strap worked fine:
Dropped the PSI in the front tires to clear under the garage door and over the core support.
Haha everyones gotta have this picture

Mini-update
She's on a pallet and ready to be shipped to me!
Got my steering wheel adapter kit and horn. Still waiting on the 2" spacer.
A peek into the backseat. Two cargo panels waiting for paint. 4 Monroe shocks. SEM paints.
The first can of red I bought didn't match as well as I'd expected (Portola red, it was too red, Firethorn red would have been a better match). At the same time, I've been having doubts about whether I want to keep the full red interior. Decided to go with black for a change.
SEM Color Coat in Landau Black. I got excited and tried it out on the tailgate trim/lock lever. Impressed!! Dries tough. Handling the pieces less than an hour later had no effect on the quality of the finish. Even fingerprints wipe right off. The finish doesn't fill in the texture of the original panel, plus the panel still appears scratched and gouged. Might sound weird, but the scratches look great! The black contours to the texture of the panel so well that it looks like it has always been a black OEM panel. I'll report back when I get the cargo panels painted and installed.

I bought these two cargo panels from Chef ^^^
They look perfect after some paint! Thanks buddy
The old panels were as brittle as it gets. I found that the right side speaker harness was severed and laying in the bedside. There was a left speaker, an old deteriorated 6x9. New items on the list: OEM speaker brackets
Installed. The clean paint brings out some of the warping in the plastic, but it's negligible. Gotta order some black clips.

The GRT4000 spacer for the steering wheel came in today. Installed with Grant installation kit 3593 for Toyota and signature series horn. It's exactly what I was aiming for!
Later, I'll paint the column cover black, it's faded and ugly.

Brought some pieces with me to work today. I have cleaned these pieces in the past, but they're overly faded.
Started with some Sprayway Crazy Clean.
Armrest Before/After
SEM color coat:
Pics of these items installed later on after I go home.

It was once red, but a lot of it has faded to a brownish orange. So hard to find good condition replacements I like the red on red, must have been awesome when it was fresh and new.
Oh and here are those other pics of the stuff installed:

SEM Landau Black, looks like he has a can of some prep solve also.
DETAILS We want more info, is it dye, penetrating or surface, interior paint? Did you ever find a match for the red, or a near match?
I mentioned before my model years only came in blue and grey, they didn't even use blue or grey abs it's a surface applied color

So far, I've broken $2k including purchase price of the truck. It will be on the road before $3k.
It's back on the 1st page, https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f199.../#post52047582

I tried to match the interior by eye at the paint store. The red I had initially chose, Portola Red, was far too red. If I was going to try again, I'd have used Firethorn Red, but I wanted to take the chance to change the color while it was an option.
Here's what firethorn red looks like. VW GTI interior:

The motor is in transit. ETA Wednesday.
In the meantime, successful junkyard run today. Got a new hood prop support (the little rubber grommet) and the white clip.
Swapped out these old faded door light lenses for red ones from a 2nd gen:
Took an ECT switch from a 2nd gen. Since the wiring isnt the same, I used the good mechanical parts of the 2nd gen switch and replaced the busted up inner workings of the 1st gen switch. Basically just swapped the white door with the spring on it.
More cleaning in preparation for the new motor
Got 2 gallons of ATF for the transmission and power steering. 10 qts of Mobil 1 10W-30 and two oil filters for break in oil changes. One gallon of coolant.
Going to get ordering on the internet as soon as I get the motor here and sorted out.
And last, some photos from the driveway when I was flushing out the heater core.
The inside door handles are really ugly. I need to get on painting those.
