Yes try that. U just need the frame level to the ground so wheels could stay on if you had sufficient jack stand height. You would just jack it enough to unload the suspension slightly.

That's the problem. My frame is 26" off the ground.... I'll try to think a way out

With further research I was able to clarify that there is no difference in the bodies of all 1st gen 4runners. With that said this means that the frame mounts are identical on IFS an SA 1st gens.

I compared both my 85 Runner and my 87 pickup and the front mounts all measure to be the same distance an height. Note my 87 is still IFS.

Sounds to me your frame is either bent downward in the front or your body is bent upward.

Try clamping a straight edge to your frame behind the front tires. Hopefully it's long enough to stick out the front. Measure the distance between straight edge and frame. Do same on other side. See what measurements you get compared to someone else

Again,......... THANKS, RB! I really have trouble finding directions to look on many of my problems, and less and less outreach, both making it difficult. Largely myfault, not having been able to keep things up to date here anymore. Thankfully, this is a large part of your professional experience, so trust me, I realize you are "on to something"!

At 26" could you stuff some wood under it to level the frame. Could probably use a jack to level it one the suspension. Would get you close.use the datum sheet I posted and do the math on 26" per point. Really just concentrate one the front. Good luck

Well, got the brand new V6 w/Detroit diff in the rear....

Local couple guys I have seen around here, yet never met in person, saw my request on Instagram for help and came over and spent hours just hanging out and talking truck and helping me hump this much heavier differential up in there. SO COOL OF THEM!

Pulled her out of the garage to prep for surgery! Lol.....

Pulled the very recently done 4 cylinder differential with new / broken in G2 4.88's and premium install kit set up by Jay King at Yotamasters....

Pulled it with the Spartan in mid ratchet on purpose,.....

, and within a quarter inch turn of the pinion it popped right in.... ....

These are so quiet, the gears, and in mint broken in condition.... Going to sell with the Spartan, with the disclaimer that the spartan could be annoying... I would recommend just basically disassembling it reassembling it , which would allow to see if something is out of specs, because it was put together by a member on here a couple years ago, when I grabbed the 430 geared diff with this locker in it..... Honestly think what it is is that the springs are worn out in the Spartans, which makes it ratchet more often. As you can see from the pictures nothing is coming apart and there are no obvious signs of the pin being way out or something like that....

First, I realized I had hamburger D one of the two longer studs, the one on the bottom around 5:29 on the clock.... Solved!

Also, I had to do a little bit of filing in order to get socket over the drain bolt.... Got it!

I had to do quite a bit of grinding, meaning in four different spots(1:30, 4:30, 7:30 and 10:30) on the proverbial axle to differential meeting point clock! Haha, just to clear the outer bearing adjustment nuts...

Hahaha, dude was freaking hilarious, and he cracked me up all day! Lol... I just finished grinding and he insisted to help lift the diff and have me mark stuff as I was grinding after two test fits ( he didn't want me to blow out my back )... VERY cool ppl!

Got it installed....

Sound like some cool guys, nice of them to pitch in and help you out, I bet your back was happy the next day, lol! nice work on the diff swap, look forward to hearing how you like it after putting some miles on it! Wish I had the coin, I'd buy your old setup, I'd like to go to 4.88's someday if I ever step up to 37"s...

Yeah, i did, they will be back to bring some mango stands they have. ;-) lol. I have that huge jack too, and couple more stands for the front axle. It's a weird 1/4" of alteration! Haha.

Weird thing I remember; all the 1st gens have 2 longer bolts.... Thought they went in the front. Anyway, curious why, but think they're in the rear, cuz of body thickness... Maybe it was for the front though? The kit seems to have 2 taller bushings, but maybe it's an optical illusion, hehe.

Still have to clear the rod links, heims and arms with some more cutting on the tunnel.....

Also, in the leftovers of body mount stuff, looks like i have 8 less tall bushings not being used. Maybe they need to go in the back 8...

Measurements first, but i also need the bushings out to take a closer look.

I am totally clueless when it comes to gears. I was wondering when you had to do the front end repair due to something being bent if like what Toyota Boy mentioned as well.
