Haha, yeah, that's a doozy! JustDSM(member on here) has done one for a high end dollar taco owner with 100k in suspension and other work... (the kind that get 30ft air vertical for 100ft leaps!.....at 120mph! Haha).... The guy does beautiful work.... He would help me if/when I'd I fly him out..... He strongly recommends the 3RZ over the 1UZ, mainly cuz it's far less work/cost!

Those 2JZ-HYPO motors are just insanely fast!

PS: that link would not for me... I'll try again now

Hey Mark happy Birthday!

In one of the lattest offroad mags they ddid a sick swap with a modern yota v6. The newer ones pump out more horses in a smaller package than the 1UZ.

Its a 1GR 4.0 V6 in a 1st Gen. 270 ponies and coil over suspension.

FEBRUARY 2014 issue of Petersons 4Wheel Offroad. Its called the Superrunner.

Its sick dude have a look.

Im going to be looking at write off auctions.

Meaning like the light cargo trucks run? Incredibly build motors! At least the mid to late 90's ones were. My brother in law has one(probably many more now) at his company. That thing was fast and it was a 20 foot box. Anyway, anything is worth considering. Do you know someone who did this?

Thanks man! I'm hoping I can have a 2nd birthday party up at the hot springs, maybe even before Christmas. We will see. Lol...

Far is that motor, that would be totally fine with me. There is no way in hell blood I would do something simply for the fact that it is throaty and really mean sounding! Hahaha... And I'm sure the six cylinder has its own rumble. It doesn't matter anyway, I am for more interested in power and efficiency. One problem with the newer Motors is cost, another problem is what I think are the rules with California... I don't believe the motor you swap can be more than seven years older or newer, and either direction? If it is I believe you have more problem. I need to look up a California referee sheet.

I was digging around a little bit, on 4 wheel off road magazine Facebook page, and I think I will just go right to their website and see if I can see it? Hehe.... You are talking about the 2003/4/5( ?... I can't remember what year it was ) and up 6 cylinders right? Around the same time the 4runner came out with an 8 cylinder. I would love to do with RBX is doing eventually... That Toyota diesel would be so ideal for me, considering I do drive it quite a bit and I take it on really long trips when I go wheeling or visiting peeps. You know what I mean? But if I could get 20 miles a gallon or better on the highway out of A powerful 6 cylinder(granted I keep my foot from being heavily buried in the skinny pedal, hehe)..... Holy crap yes I would be happy! I'm willing to bet the cost on that swap is quite a bit more drastic.....?

Please read this and take 10 minutes and WRITE THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CALIFORNIA senators and congressional legislative bureaucrats???? Don't think because some of you are not in california that this will not make its way to you. They're closing them everywhere they can. Even in the Angeles Crest, I took Redeth to the backside of the mountains, and most of the rock gardens and other places I used to wheel were all blocked off by huge concrete pylons!

This was a very specific situation relating to the Marine base at 29 palms, but when you read it you will see that after something was already worked out to please everyone, Senator Dianne Feinstein is trying to reintroduce 'Alternative-6'!....

The 4 wheel drive community is by far the most responsible for cleaning up those areas and many others after many local tweekers and other scumbags have doused them heavily with their refuse... Heck, they can't even get more than 1 Ranger on duty in a 10,000 square mile radius near Big Rock Creek and Devil's Punchbowl and surrounding areas... Because of squandered so much of the taxpayers money and this once beautiful and very prosperous state... Big Brother hard at work , launching out their brown shirts from the Sierra Club and otherwise.

Proposal Offers New Hope among Grimm Alternatives

If you’re a fan of Johnson Valley OHV Area, you’re probably well aware of the current fight to try to keep the Hammers open for future generations of outdoor and off road enthusiasts. The fight has been a long hard-fought battle every step of the way to try to come to an agreement that can satisfy both the Marine Corps at 29 Palms as well as the off road community.

The BLM estimates that off roaders bring in a total of $71.5 million into the local economy every year so losing the Hammers would not only affect the off road community, it would also cripple the local economy. Many believe the Marine Corps position that a land sharing compromise (60 days out of the year would be set aside for the Marine Corps under the Alternative 4) would destroy their readiness is unfounded. The Marines have been at war for the past 10 years with the MEB level training requirement in place without the expansion. Their most recent USMC training order 3502.2 states on pg. 6 how MEB level exercises will be successfully conducted maintaining readiness before the 29 Palms land expansion is complete.Recently, Congressman Paul Cook, a combat veteran Marine who served as the Inspector General at 29 Palms, introduced legislation that met the Marine Corps training needs while retaining public access to all of Johnson Valley. This proposal was a modified version of the Marine Corps Alternative Four which would result in The Johnson Valley National OHV Area.

Congressman Cook’s proposal went unopposed in the House of Representatives and is now part of the National Defense Authorization Act awaiting confirmation by the Senate. You would think this would be good news but unfortunately, Senator Dianne Feinstein is considering re-submitting Alternative Six through the Senate Arms Committee. Alternative Six would take away the majority of Johnson Valley from off-roaders and outdoor enthusiasts forever. Johnson Valley was designated as an off road recreation area to protect other wilderness areas so losing it would only serve to be a huge disservice to the off road community as well as future generations of wheelers. Here’s what you can do to help!˟

Call and write to Senator Dianne Feinstein urging her to support the existing Alternative Four (also known as the Cook/McKeon Compromise). Your voice could make the difference so we urge you to speak up for off roaders and more importantly, future generations to come.

Update:˟While the Marine Corps let the Cook/Mckeon Compromise go unchallenged in the House of Representatives, it is believed they will introduce Alternative 6 language through the Energy and Resources Committee on the Senate side via S. 1309. The only way to keep this from happening is by taking action immediately by contacting these individual members of the Senate to ask them to oppose such language.

California rules do get our way eventually. I will make some calls on Monday when I get off of work. Diane Fienstien gets under my skin and she is not even in my state. Makes my head hurt when I hear her on tv.

Someday I would like to do a diesel swap as well. I too am after efficiency and maybe a little more power. Even though diesel is higher by the gallon, I think the cost per mile would be less. One day we will be at $5 a gallon gas.

Yes, exactly one of those cargo truck motors. My good friend has an 1987 fj60 and he is thinking about doing this swap. Here is a link a guy did for an isuzu swap in an jf60 cruiser.

http://forum.ih8mud.com/diesel-tech-...ey-begins.html

I don't know if anyone has tried it for a 4runner, but it's still really cool and interesting

Finally put my other seat cover on the passenger side... I like them, they're very comfortable and soft and they were much more expensive until they wound up at Big Lots! Haha. ...( they come with headrest covers as well but I have the Camry head rests in there and I can't fit them over them... I'm a little bummed about that.

I am really loving the triple sticks from RADesigns... I have used the crap out of them and never had an issue... They do not bend and they do not bind... And as you can see I was able to keep everything in my original shifter bezel... Obviously with a little trimming. I also love how the lights look on those soft touch switches. The other day, a guy pulled up next to me on my dark street and said, "I know you're just warming up and getting ready to leave... , but could you please light up those roof lights and all your other ones? I've been watching you while I walk my dog and so forth... Just want to see what you were doing?"... Good grief I love that stuff! So, healing in the passenger side as I was explaining the switches, then I simply drag to my finger across very lightly on all three, and Bing Bing Bing, they all instantaneously came on. Like I was very much so, he couldn't believe how bright the setup was... Then turned on the rock lights for him and he thought, all on his own,... "I bet you could go up into the mountains at night and not have a single worry, right?"... YEP! Lol... I'm so grateful for the deal that I got and I love having them on here. I use the backup ones all the time as I'm parking. I like to back into parking spots. I think you can see my CB in this picture but I'm not positive... Just also wanted to share how that's mounted on the front of my console. Love it! I got to messing with a little bit and I think I realized why it was a little muffled... There was a sticker over the microphone! Lol. Also loving the external Uniden stereo 4.5inch speaker...

Glad you can be encouraged as to what YOU WILL BE eating again, soon, rather than feeling aggravated by the pics! Haha...

I hear ya, on the polar opposite sibling thing, in the case of your lady, haha. Often the case. You're very blessed, sir! And, important to mention, ....you have a greattttt attitude and very visible gratitude in spite of your circumstance.

You can bet the first thing I'll be tearing into will be a nice, juicy Venison steak!

Blessed I am, despite everything that is going on. My attitude isn't that great Marc, but I appreciate that. I really do. At this point, I feel like I'm just trying to keep from drowning, 4+ months of this crap has worn me down to the nub. All I ever hear is "You're young, it can't be THAT bad." I just want to be myself again!

Your Runner's lookin good too btw!

On your roof rack, I didnt fully understand the problem area. Is it the wiring that could start leaking? I would find a good sealant and seal where the wires come thru. On the outside, depending on how many wires come thru, I would go to the boneyard and find a plug with the same amount of wire and make a quick disconnect on the outside. Alot of the plugs under the engine bay would be water proof.

If its keeping your truck out of the garage, I wouldnt blame you for coming up with a quick removal system of the rack. Somethig like hood pins for quick release. I forget the name of them, but there is a better faster that just twist and locks.

I like how you have your fire extinguisher mounted. I just talked to a guy parting his 87 out due to fire. He said if he had an extinguisher, he could of saved his truck. I am going to get some extinguisher mounted in my truck the way you have.

Proper use of an extinguisher will go along ways. Just use 3-5 second burst and the smallest extinisher will last awhile.

YES! Muahahaha! Lol... Just kidding, you know I just like to inspire people to eat well. I don't always do my best at it being so mobile at times... But when I can I do.

Thanks for the birthday wishes man! It was a great time!

Well darn it! I always enjoy when you get to see the food pics! Lol. Can't you just switch to browser on the bottom left task tab? I have to do that all the time because the app only shows me about half of the pictures. Have a great Christmas, hab!

Well, people that say things like that have no conception of what type of pain and breaking down in general that you are going through. It's a pretty ignorant perspective to have, but most often people don't mean any harm by it. They just don't like facing things that are so difficult with the 100 percent truth. You may not always have a perfect attitude, you would... But, for the most part, you don't come off as a defeated person to me... And you're not running around like a little troll all nasty to others... You hate what you're going through and you appreciate what you have... What more can be asked?

Wish there was something I could do to help, directly... But luckily, what a total blessing, you have someone like her! I can imagine that is absolutely key for you right now, so I'm very glad that not only is she refusing to abandon you... She's strapped that huge laod of burdens/ responsibilities on her back and is willing 2 help lighten the load tremendously!( not that you are a burden, it's just that anyone who's been through this knows how difficult it can be for someone who loves someone who is in it. That's the burden!)...

My very best to you, sir! Tell that lovely missus that she also has my thoughts and prayers!

I'm really wanting some quick release style roof attachment... The T tracks for those things are so particular... I wish I could do something like a ratchet or clamp style lever on the 4 points on each side like I have now with the screws... They are not that difficult to loosen just slide the rock of, so I'll be ok. As far as the leaking, I have an idea of how to seal that up and I do have a couple of project pieces that I grabbed an advance. One of them would require that I make the whole a little bigger. I'm not so worried about that as long as it is practical and completely sealed. It is basically a 12 volt auxiliary plug project peace... You pretty much build your own by wiring in spades to the back and then you have a conectar ready to go... The problem is its only two pants so I was going to remove all of the insides and just leave it as a hollow port that would sit flush with the roof and have a fully waterproof lid. The problem there is that when I am running them, the lid would be open and I would still have to find a way to seal it up.

Thanks on the fire extinguisher. I've had it in there for a while but it was just laying on the floor. I'm going to mount one up front as well to the back of the passenger seat or maybe behind the console. I will figure it out.

************************************

Right now, I'm really ticked off about something else... The other day it was pouring rain car and while my roof doesn't leak, the windshield, which is the second one that these dumbasses have put in, is leaking and the top center. I've spoken to a few other windshield guys and I understand that these types of difficult because of the trim. I am NOT getting rid of that trim! I like it, and that is all that matters. They should be able to figure this out and last time they came out they didn't even remove my windshield and redo it... They cleaned out the entire upper portion very well though... And then they applied new goop or whatever that stuff is. You know that expensive stuff they use as sound deadening material as well. I saw the tubes, so I know that's what they used... The other windshield guys I spoke with told me there's no way you can clean it out and reseal it... You have to remove windshield again and start over. I suppose I could give them one more shot, and I'm sure it would be covered... I'm just very leery of water getting in there because not only can it lead to short circuits but it causes rot! Having a truck with so little rust on it is something that I've tried to maintain very well... Something like that causing my roof or otherwise to rot out? Oh my goodness would I be furious! Its always garaged so I'm sure it's not really bad... But whatever water is trapped in there right now is probably going to cause damage, you know what I mean? Very pissed, I will update you as it goes.

Thanks for the info on the suspension lift kits.

Removing and re-installing that trim must be a PITA, so I used to think that using flowable silicone where top windshield trim interfaces with roof would keep water from above out. However, wind-blown water could still get from underneath.

So I guess, the best way to fix the leak is to really get to where glass interfaces with body - meaning you'd have to remove the trim.

Next best thing would be using rubber trim and making sure all interfaces (top bottom, side) with body and glass are well-sealed. Chrome would really be a pain completely seal.

Please let us know how it goes, Mark.

Thanks a lot for the quick response! I appreciate you very often! Lol.

Yeah, there is a little bulge in the chrome trim around the windshield. I shouldn't have said that I am NOT going without it... I just really would prefer to keep it. I think it looks nice.

I will do a little video explaining what I found and why I am 90 percent positive that this is where it is coming through... I don't think, in this case, it's coming from below, because I found that little bit of seepage while it was sitting in the driveway( because it hadn't been driven around at all during the rain ).
