I cant make up my mind on what to do.I Have a 2002 Tacoma 8 inch e locker that I picked up for it. It is in need of 5.29 gear to be functional for center build .Presently it has a 99 Tacoma 8.4 with Yukon 5.29 gears. The 8.4 has earned a stellar reputation with me in my trail rig with 40s and dull cases. To add to the drama i would like to go wider than a taco. I know The 8.4 was original found in the t 100 truck. What to do ?

Might be able to give you some details in the near future. Have a couple of things coming up at once.
Killed the front diff in this truck so I have to tear into it.
Hopefully picking up an LS400 soon as an engine donor for my other truck.

Did a little poking around while I was under my LS400 doing an oil change, the rear diff has a pretty robust cradle, is centermounted and the axles appear to be equal length. Haven't taken a tape measure to anything or researched splines count yet. Eyeballing it, the track width of the car looks to be pretty close to pickup width.

So, I might be toying around with a centermount Lexus front diff. Going to see what (if anything) from the rear of the donor will work in this application. Be nice if the axles worked as they are designed to hold up to a V8. Downside is I don't know what gear ratios are available for it.

I would like to see what broke in you 7.5 diff. On mine the center pin broke and so did the side gears. But the Yukon 5.29 gears were fine. It appeared that the drift pin that holds the main pin in place had failed or was not installed correctly during the gear swap. by the` way I was abusing the truck way past it limits and it was pre center mount.

I am very interested in upgrading my front third to something with a 8 inch ring gear .Any way you can post some pic of that lexas stuff.

(They are rolled from the factory)

As soon as I get the shafts cut, I will start mocking up the A- arms and building the diff mount. I will build a mockup version 1st, then start to bend tube for the chassis.

In the mean time I am stripping down the knuckles and hubs, and drilling them for oil bath.

What mountain was in the background?

Very nice

Wow nice work! I bought a Downey 11 inch mega travel kit back in the day. I stacked it with my 4' trail master and rancho t-bars. I ran 38.5 tsl sx's. I had mad ground clearance. I wasn't happy with the flex and the geometry was off. I couldn't get it to take an alignment. Props for tryin' to make the ifs work.

Yes that is the first.I was surprised that i was able to twist a 2 inch 120 DOM tubing. I was wide open with a fresh motor in good tune.It did not break easy. I was happy to see that the tubing held onto the original axle shaft. That was what i was expecting to be the failing point. You are on the money next one will be .250.By the way that park is 3 mile from my house and we use it for testing.I kinda did it on purpose or was not one bit surprised when something let go. we had three broken axles before the day was up. glad my buddy has a roll bed makes changing rear axle niceName: traskmountainclubrun063.jpg

Thanks.I moved the the top balljoint back for added camber.made a nice difference on the way it fills on the street. I do my aliments with tape and level.
who knows if it any where near specs but my tire are holding up good.I ran 38.5 14.50 x15 tsl sx for years on a ifs Toyota not a truck in the county could follow me in deep rut wheeling.Deep mud holes was on of the big obstacles at the time.
