Broke and driftin SAS
Managed to peice some stuff together and start a sas on my combonation of 87 and 88 4x4 trucks. My 88 is a dd and my 87 has been a parts truck. I plan on using the 87 truck because the cab and frame are in better shape than the 88. But the 87 is a carb 22r and the 88 is a 22re. Ill be removing the w56 and 22re and putting that and the wiring in the 87. My front axle im using is out of an 85 4x4 with 4.10s. I also have a 4.10 rear to match so i dont have to mess with changing gear although i wish they were 5.29s.

Anyone have any opinions on what springs i should get?? Im wondering if theres a difference in qaulity between allpro and trail gear??? Im thinking 4 or 5s in front and chevy 63s at rear. I would like to run 35s. Also i didnt get tube jigs with the parts i have so far but i have the rear tubes. Can i get the jigs seperate or do i have to get the tubes and jigs??Or can i make my own jigs???

Yea that white 87 was bought by my neighbor with only 12,000mi on it. As far as i can tell its never been in an accident, and the frame is real nice. The cab is in great shape, the box is workable. The cab does have the notorious drivers front mount rusted. I will be swapping my 22re and w56 from the 88 and all the wiring. Id really like to put in a 4.3 but i dont have the $$$ To do it right now.

I say go with the all pro springs. That's what I would like to replace mine with.
Ill help you fox that floor on the 87. I also have the outer cab and rocker section for right there if you need it. We could easily cut out that section from the old 85 and fit/weld in in a day.
With a few beers and some shooting in between of course.

Forgot to say that I think the 4" would be plenty for 35's. 5" might make it look like you need larger tires.
That guy I met at the Gas station at the bottom of my hill has the 5" all pr springs with 39" iroks

Ive been seriously considering a 4.3 cpi engine on this project. Im sure i could handle the wiring and fab work and i think i would like the stock 190hp too. I still would want to run my w56 and top shift toy tcase so id have to bite the bullet on the adapter. I would want to buy an entire wrecked vehicle where i could remove the gm harness and engine myself so i know it wasnt hacked up plus id be getting the fuel tank and pump as well which would be needed beings the 4.3 requires higher pressure and volume then the 22re.
Any opinions??

I vote 3.4 liter. Keep it all toyota. R150 transmission if you want to keep it a 5 speed. Or the A340 series auto is stout. The 3.4 liter does not have the torque that the 4.3 has, but the 4.3 won't go a half million miles like the 3.4 liter. The 3.4's are cheap to pick up at a salvage yard. The stock fuel pump works. No adapters needed. Look into the 3.4 swap threads. That is what I did for my 88. Great information.

Looks like a good build is about to start brewing. 4" is plenty for 35's, if you run a chevy spring it is good for 2-3 inches of lift so you will have to raise the rear or lower the front to match.

Been gathering up some rear toyota springs i have for the fronts. The 3.4 is a great engine , the one in our 97 runner has treated us great however ive grown up with GM's and if youve ever hammered on a 4.3 vortec cpi engine theres no comparison on power and thats what im looking for. This isnt going to be a DD.
