I'm not worried too much about the head yet. Ive got a great machinist that specializes in heads. He'll get it looking and working great. One of the cylinder head bolts. I think stripped some threads off the block. Some of the threads was left on the bolt. When I tipped the block upside down and blew some air into the hole a lot of fine dust came out.

Other than that the cylinder walls look and feel very smooth. We made a mistake and forgot to remove the crankshaft bolt so we have to take it off the stand and put the flywheel back on to loosen the bolt. We kind of got in a grove and were moving very fast.

I've decided that I'm going to need to do some electoral work. Looking at the wiring harness there are lost of wiring looms or wire wraps that have melted away. A few are just dry brittle and cracked. Others are melted down to the wires I need to buy a soldering iron and some and some wire looms to protect the wires from heat and water. Most polyethylene wire loom can't take much than 200º F. I did find some chrome corrugated wire loom that can take up to 1000º F. It is designed for use in engines. About $10-$15 from Cable Ties And More in Canada. No sale tax for us in the States!

Looking for locker, elocker specifically for my rear axle. I've been doing some reading up on a lot of info. There are lots of axles sold here local and I'm hoping to find one that will work for me.

I'm not sure on the gear ratio bit. How much work is involved in changing the gears, how do I avoid having to do this? I'd love to find a rear axle with elocker that I can just swap out and hook up the electronics for it. I think that may be the easiest for me as I can't do any welding/fabricating or change gear ratios.

I found a rear axle with elocker from a 98 Tacoma. It's got a 4:10 gear ration which is what I think my 87 4Runner has. I'm not sure how much work is involved in swapping rear axles.

2 hours more of work tonight and I finally broke everything down and took a lot of parts over to Clegg's to be cleaned and machined. I should know tomorrow what needs replacing and what I can reuse. He looking over my camshaft real quick, he noticed some excessive ware marks and said I many want to just replace it.

I'll be I've got about 10 pounds of grease build up on the block alone.

I use to own a 99 4Runner with lockers. You are correct in that it has to be 4 low. I believe that if you go over 5mph it will disengage. I don't see much use for lockers it if I'm going very fast. I guess if I was in snow or mud it could be help full in a higher gear. I'll end up wiring it to run in any gear.

I gave my truck and optical lift by removing the side bars. I'll put sliders on latter. I've also take some measurements for the wire loom. You can see the melted plastic. I'll be replacing it with high temp wire looms that are good up to 1000ºF

About the Elocker, If you do the Grey wire mod it will allow the locker to be engaged at any time you press the button. Ive read on here in a couple places of how quick and easy this is to do to have your locker work both in 4wd and even 2wd
