I've got everything up and running. I've run a half tank through it so far and I've averaged 12 mpg. That is corrected for the 31x10 50R15LT tires that are on there. That also includes a lot of idling and lots up traveling up steep hill. By no means a good bench mark but I want to see how good of mpg I can get.

I do not have the a/c or p/s hooked up. I want to run 2 full tank through it to see what a difference it will make if any. It's hard to keep the rmp's down as I don't have a tachometer.

with 33/12.50/15's and stock gears i was only getting 10-11 mpg depending on driving conditions. 12mpg if it was all highway.

I've improved my MPG to 17.65. Not bad but I want more. I commute over a very large hill every day so that makes it very hard to get to 25 MPG which is my goal. I've dropped my a/c p/s and spare tire. I changed the way I drive; hardly ever idle, shift sooner, stay off the gas, and draft lots of semis. This week I'm using mid grade fuel. I'll be changing my 02 sensor and maybe add a cold air intake. I'd like to get a second set of tires that use the stock tires. I could then throw on my off road tires for weekend trips.

fyi- fuel grade does nothing for these engines. i tried it, and there was no change. not saying "don't do it," but just letting you know what my experience was.

I'm sure that's true. It's the easiest variation that I could test this week. I would be surprised if I get a 1mpg bump but that may not have anything to do with the fuel. It'll take a few weeks of data to establish a base line and a standard deviation.

Make sure u pay attention to dyno charts if available u dont want any power loss below 2500rpm to achieve optimal fuel mileage

I'm not going to be paying $100 to throw it on a Dyno. That's a couple weeks of fuel.

Great job on rebuild, i'm happy that you didn't give up. post some new updated pics of the runner. I'm having the water leak issues also have track it down. but fuel delievery is the biggest issue fuel pump won't kick on. Replaced relay used jumper to check pump. It's driving me crazy. oh well. But great job on build.

Quick update on MPG. I drove a little harder with the mid grade fuel. Got 16.09 mpg a drop from 17.65mpg. I figured it cost me and extra $3.66. When I filled up I was tired and accidently used the high grade. Oh well.

Wow. I took my top off and I got 19 mpg. That is using low grade fuel. That's up 2 mpg from the previous weeks. The next thing I plan to do is turn off the engine when I come to a long stop light. That 2 mpg jump will save me $252 a year. Well I can't have my top off in the winter. It kind of rains and snows a lot.
