My '94 needs some work. The rust fortunately isn't too bad because I've been Rust Checking it for most of its life but mechanically, it needs a good going-through. I can't wait until I have a place with my own garage where I can do a partial tear-down.

Glad I found this...

After 5+ of sitting I go and find my baby, my 1st Toyota truck, has been raped.

They took everything BUT the cab, the bed and a the slightly bent frame it's on.

The worst part is I just dropped off a 85 frame and axles I could have used to just the body over on...

Now I've got to replace a COMPLETE interior (+Dash), ALL the pluming (AC, heater core), do some body and electrical work... And put it on a frame...

Nice thread... It's got me to thinking if she's worth reviving...

"Hi, my name's David... And I have a Toyota problem"

BTW worth every one of them...

If its an 89+ extended cab, I have a good straight frame for dirt cheap

Update:

I have been working on the truck some more (it never stops).

I overheated on the way home a few months ago. Had a nice leak at the upper idler pulley, finally replaced the radiator.

I managed to keep a little Christmas money for some toys. Got a front bumper from Sky's Off-Road, along with a Smittybilt XRC8 winch with synthetic line.

Last year while wheeling, I managed to slice a sidewall in one of my 33x12.50R15 mud terrains. That left me with 4.

Got 5 33x10.50R15 BFG All Terrains on some 15x8 Bajas. They run great on the road, and they make for a safe ride home from a day of wheeling.

I also had some extra materials lying around, and wanted to regain some unused space behind the tire carrier.

Got a used steering box, and replaced the old bleeding one. This one leaks too (at the input shaft), but at least not as much.

Today, I changed out the rear bearings and seals after the driver side started leaking gear oil out of the drum. Should have done that with the locker.

Again, the original design was 4Crawler's. I took the design and had someone local make a set up.

One of my favorite recent pics

Wow! Tons of work paid off. How many vehicles have restored?

PS: I can't believe with all that time you put into that thing that you take it wheeling! That thing would be a weekend driver if I put that much work into it! NICELY DONE!

This was my first restoration. I was looking to do a car, but when this truck fell in my lap, I was real happy.

I never intended to take it wheeling, until I did. An now I'm hooked. Truly amazed at what it can do.

I drive the truck more than I do my 2006 GTI. It's easier to keep it running, and retains the value of the VW.

Cyberman, Contratulations on an AWSOME build!! I'm a newbie here and just discovered your post. I read it entirely and enjoyed the pics along the way. You are very talented. If I could only attain 1/2 of what you have done to your rig, I'd be happy.

Have a great day.

Oh Wow! I am truly and utterly amazed. And relieved. The is an amazing job, and it helps me to have so much more hope. Only two days ago I found a 93' Extracab V6 4x4, and I jumped at the opportunity to buy it for only $1000. It was pitch-black up in the mountains by the time I drove the 7 hours out to get it and with only a cell-phone light I couldn't really see all that was wrong with it. I knew it had some rust but turns out the it had alot more than I thought. Now don't get me wrong I knew this would be a project truck...I already have a 94' Base 2WD as my DD, so this can take all the time it needs...now after seeing your build-up I plan to do this...it has really inspired me and it has given me not only hope, but something to look up to. I now know of someone who has done this and if willing to, can give me alot of advice. Please keep up the awesome work on this truck and know that you have really inspired me!

Time for SAS

You know the saying "if I knew then what I know now"? That's been my experience with this project.

If you followed this thread, I would like to teach everyone a lesson. Before doing anything to your rig, take it offroad first. Take it a few times, and if you have fun, then take this advice.

I've been really enjoying wheeling my truck. It's been surprising me everytime I take it out (proof found here in these youtube videos).

The IFS on this truck has served me well. But now is the time to do what I should have done from the beginning. It's time for SAS.

I went with Trail Gear's IFS eliminator kit, with 3" HD springs. Once they settle, I hope to have the front somewhere about the same height as the old Rough Country lift.

Since I was getting into this project, I got the following to go with it:
  1. Large diff armor
  2. Creeper gussets
  3. Rock Rings
  4. Backing Plate Eliminators
  5. 4 cyl Lock Rite locker for the front
  6. Trail Creeper 5.29 gears (with diff setup kits)
  7. 2 Differential Stud Eliminator Kits
  8. 2 Creeper Breather Kits

If I had more $$$, I would have also upgraded the axles to longfields.

I certainly wish that I would have known that I was going to do this. It would have been much easier when I stripped it down to the frame.

On to the obligatory pictures. BTW, the dude welding isn't me. Still don't have that skill.

LOL

Cyberman.

I just want to let you know. Your thread update came through to my droid while i was eating supper tonight. And my whole mind frame has been changed.

Ill be the first to tell you i love my toyota but last week i decided to trade it for a 4x4 atv.

Then i changed my mind. Then again. Then changed it again. Well as im texting a guy about a four wheeler i stop and i decide to check out your thread. And everything gets completely flipped. You see 2 months ago i scored a honda prelude tricked out motor swap and all and i parked the yota to add that car to insurance. To shorten this story up. I just realized i can keep the toyota. Sell the car and use that money towards sas'n and tricking out my yota the way i want.

Idk why i didn't think of this but it suddenly occured to me. Im getting back to the drawing board and about to get this ball rolling.

So inadvertanly me subscribing to your thread has shown me the light. So thank you.

And the truck looks awesome by the way. Keep up the good work!

Gonna keep my eye on your SAS.

Keep me informed about the 3" HD springs. Why did you go with the HD and not the regular ones?

I've been hoping that my chronicles have been helping people. I never thought it would help in that way, LOL.

Oh, and I must add, plasma cutters ROCK!

More pics to come. Driver side brackets have been cut, and some grinding done. Welding is supposed to happen on Thursday.
